1. Introduction

2. Setup
2.1. Battery Installation and Charging
- Open the battery compartment cover located on the bottom of the camera.
- Insert the rechargeable lithium-ion battery, ensuring the correct orientation according to the diagram inside the compartment.
- Close the battery compartment cover securely.
- Connect the camera to the AC adapter/USB cable for charging. The battery indicator will show charging status. A full charge is recommended before first use.
2.2. Memory Card Installation
The camera supports SD and SDHC memory cards up to 32 GB. A memory card is required to store photos and videos.
- Locate the memory card slot, usually adjacent to the battery compartment.
- Insert the memory card with the metal contacts facing the correct direction, as indicated by the slot diagram, until it clicks into place.
- To remove, gently press the card until it springs out, then pull it out.
3. Operating the Camera
3.1. Power On/Off
Press the POWER button located on the top of the camera to turn it on or off.
3.2. DualView LCD Screens
The EC-PL120 features a 2.7-inch rear LCD viewfinder and an additional 1.5-inch front LCD screen. The front LCD is particularly useful for self-portraits or group photos where the photographer wants to be included.

3.3. Taking Photos
- Turn on the camera.
- Select your desired shooting mode using the MODE button. For general use, Smart Auto 2.0 is recommended.
- Frame your shot using the LCD screen.
- Press the shutter button halfway down to focus. The focus frame will turn green when focus is achieved.
- Press the shutter button fully down to capture the image.
3.4. Smart Auto 2.0
This feature automatically analyzes composition elements and selects from 17 different photo and 4 different movie modes to optimize settings for the best possible shot in various lighting conditions.
3.5. HD Movie Recording
The EC-PL120 can record high-definition video in 1280x720-pixel resolution at 30 frames per second. To record a video, switch to movie mode and press the shutter button to start/stop recording.
3.6. Digital Image Stabilization (DIS)
DIS automatically compensates for camera movement, helping to produce clear, blur-free photos and videos, especially in challenging shooting conditions.
3.7. Smart Filter Effects
Apply artistic effects to your still shots with Smart Filter. Options include miniature, vignetting, and fish-eye filters to enhance creativity.
3.8. Beauty Shot and Face Detection
The Beauty Shot feature automatically removes facial blemishes and imperfections for improved portraits. The camera also includes face, smile, and blink detection, automatically adjusting lighting for up to nine faces and capturing shots when subjects smile or preventing them if eyes are closed.
4. Maintenance
4.1. Cleaning the Camera
- Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the camera body.
- For the lens and LCD screens, use a specialized lens cleaning cloth and solution. Avoid harsh chemicals.
- Never touch the lens or LCD screens with your fingers.
4.2. Storage
When not in use, store the camera in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Remove the battery if the camera will not be used for an extended period.
5. Troubleshooting
- Camera does not power on: Ensure the battery is correctly inserted and fully charged.
- Pictures are blurry: In low light conditions, ensure the camera is set to Smart Auto mode. Hold the camera steady or use a tripod. Digital Image Stabilization helps, but extreme motion or low light can still cause blur.
- Memory card error: Ensure the memory card is inserted correctly. Try formatting the card (this will erase all data) or use a different compatible memory card.
- Flash does not fire: Check flash settings. Ensure it is not set to 'OFF' or in a mode where flash is suppressed.
