Setup
Initial Winding
Your Longines watch is equipped with an automatic mechanical movement. While it winds itself through the motion of your wrist, it is recommended to manually wind it upon initial setup or if it has stopped due to inactivity. To manually wind, unscrew the crown (if applicable, for screw-down crowns) and then rotate it clockwise approximately 30-40 times in position 1 (fully pushed in) until you feel resistance. This builds up the power reserve.
Setting the Time
- Pull the crown out to position 3 (farthest out). The seconds hand will stop.
- Rotate the crown in either direction to set the hour and minute hands to the correct time.
- Once the time is set, push the crown back into position 1 (fully pushed in). The seconds hand will resume movement.
Setting the Date
Important: Avoid setting the date between 9:00 PM and 3:00 AM, as this can damage the movement's date mechanism.
- Pull the crown out to position 2 (intermediate position). The seconds hand will continue to run.
- Rotate the crown to adjust the date. Turn it until the correct date is displayed in the date window.
- Once the date is set, push the crown back into position 1 (fully pushed in).
Operating Your Watch
Wearing the Watch
For optimal winding of the automatic movement, wear your watch regularly. Ensure the bracelet is adjusted to fit comfortably on your wrist, allowing for natural movement without being too loose or too tight.
Water Resistance Guidelines
Your Longines Master Collection watch has a water resistance rating of 30 meters (3 ATM / 100 FT). This rating indicates that the watch is resistant to splashes and brief immersion in water, such as rain or hand washing. It is not suitable for swimming, showering, diving, or any water sports. Always ensure the crown is fully pushed in to maintain water resistance.
Maintenance
Cleaning
To maintain the appearance of your watch, regularly wipe the case and bracelet with a soft, dry cloth. For the stainless steel bracelet, a slightly damp cloth with mild soap can be used, followed by thorough drying. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.
Service Intervals
Like any precision instrument, your mechanical watch requires periodic professional servicing to ensure its accuracy and longevity. It is recommended to have your Longines watch serviced by an authorized service center every 3 to 5 years. This service typically includes cleaning, lubrication, and adjustment of the movement, as well as replacement of seals to maintain water resistance.
Storage
When not wearing your watch, store it in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight, extreme temperatures, and strong magnetic fields. Magnetic fields can affect the accuracy of mechanical movements.
Troubleshooting
- Watch has stopped: If the watch has stopped, it may simply need to be wound. Manually wind the watch using the crown as described in the 'Initial Winding' section. If worn regularly, ensure sufficient wrist movement for the automatic winding mechanism.
- Date is not changing or changes at noon: This usually indicates that the watch's time is set incorrectly for AM/PM. Advance the time by 12 hours. Also, ensure you are not attempting to set the date between 9:00 PM and 3:00 AM.
- Watch is running fast or slow: Minor deviations in accuracy are normal for mechanical watches. However, if the deviation is significant, the watch may require adjustment by an authorized service center. Exposure to strong magnetic fields can also affect accuracy.
For any issues not resolved by these steps, please contact an authorized Longines service center.
