5. Operating Instructions

The convertible design allows for easy transition between seat and creeper modes:

5.1. Using as a Seat

  1. Ensure the unit is in the upright position. The backrest should be vertical, and the seat cushion horizontal.
  2. Verify that the positive locking mechanism is engaged, securing the seat in its upright position.
  3. Carefully sit on the seat, ensuring your weight is centered.
  4. Use the casters to roll the seat to your desired working location.

5.2. Converting to a Creeper

  1. Ensure the creeper seat is on a flat, clear surface.
  2. Locate the push-pin release mechanism, typically found near the hinge point where the seat converts.
  3. Press and hold the push-pin release.
  4. While holding the pin, gently push the backrest forward and down, allowing the unit to unfold into a flat, horizontal creeper.
  5. Release the push-pin once the unit is fully extended and locked into the creeper position. Ensure it is stable before use.

5.3. Converting to a Seat (from Creeper)

  1. Ensure the creeper is on a flat, clear surface.
  2. Locate the push-pin release mechanism.
  3. Press and hold the push-pin release.
  4. While holding the pin, lift the backrest section upwards until the unit folds into the upright seat position.
  5. Release the push-pin once the unit is fully upright and the positive locking mechanism engages. Verify it is stable before sitting.

6. Maintenance

Regular maintenance will extend the life and ensure the safe operation of your convertible creeper seat.

  • Cleaning: Wipe down the steel frame and padded cushions with a damp cloth. For stubborn dirt, use a mild soap solution. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
  • Caster Care: Periodically check the casters for debris (hair, string, etc.) that may impede their movement. Clean as necessary. Lubricate the swivel bearings and wheel axles with a light machine oil if they become stiff.
  • Fastener Check: Regularly inspect all bolts, nuts, and screws. Tighten any loose fasteners to ensure structural integrity.
  • Frame Inspection: Check the steel frame for any signs of bending, cracks, or rust. Address rust spots promptly to prevent further corrosion.
  • Padding Condition: Inspect the padded cushions for tears, punctures, or excessive wear. While minor damage may not affect function, significant damage could impact comfort and durability.

If you encounter issues with your Whiteside Manufacturing Convertible Creeper Seat, refer to the following common problems and solutions:
