Shooting Modes and Features
The FinePix S4000 offers a variety of shooting modes and advanced features to enhance your photography experience.
SR Auto Mode (Scene Recognition Auto)
This intelligent mode automatically detects the scene type (e.g., Portrait, Landscape, Night) and optimizes camera settings for the best possible image without manual adjustments.
Optical Zoom Functionality
Utilize the powerful Fujinon 30x optical zoom lens to capture subjects from a wide 24mm perspective up to a telephoto 720mm. The zoom lever, typically located around the shutter button, controls the optical zoom.
Dual Image Stabilization
The camera features Dual Image Stabilization, combining a mechanically stabilized 14-megapixel CCD sensor with high ISO sensitivity settings. This technology effectively reduces blur caused by camera shake and subject movement, especially in low-light conditions or at longer zoom settings.
Motion Panorama Mode
Capture stunning panoramic shots by simply sweeping the camera across the scene. The camera automatically stitches three successive shots together to create a seamless panoramic image.
HD Movie Capture
Record high-definition videos in 720p resolution with sound at 30 frames per second. The camera includes a mini-HDMI output for easy viewing on an HDTV (HDMI cable not included).
Face Detection, Smile & Blink Detection
- Face Detection: Automatically detects and optimizes focus and exposure for faces in the frame.
- Smile Detection: The shutter is released automatically when a smile is detected, ensuring happy portraits.
- Blink Detection: Warns you if a subject has blinked, allowing you to retake the photo if necessary.
Tracking Auto Focus (AF)
This feature tracks fast-moving subjects, keeping them in focus even as they move across the frame, ensuring sharp images of dynamic scenes.
i-Flash Intelligent Flash
The i-Flash system efficiently controls flash levels for balanced illumination, preventing overexposed subjects and underexposed backgrounds.
Full Manual Controls
For advanced users, the camera offers full manual controls, allowing direct access to settings and shooting features via dedicated command buttons.
Instant Zoom / Zoom Bracketing
- Instant Zoom: Quickly magnifies the subject by 1.4x or 2x with a single button press after zooming.
- Zoom Bracketing: Captures three images at 1x, 1.4x, and 2x zoom ratios with one shutter release.
Continuous Shooting
Capture sequences of fast-moving action with continuous shooting at up to 8 frames per second for 20 frames in S mode.
Media Management
Easy Web Uploader
Tag photos and videos in-camera for easy upload to Facebook and YouTube. Connect the camera to a PC and launch MyFinePix Studio to complete the upload process.
Image Search and Face Recognition
With Face Recognition, you can tag and name up to eight favorite subjects. The camera will recognize these individuals in future photos, allowing you to search for all pictures of a specific person using the Image Search function. You can also filter searches by subject matter (e.g., person, landscape, night shot) or date.
Maintenance
Battery Care
Always use fresh, high-quality AA batteries. Remove batteries when the camera will not be used for an extended period to prevent leakage. Battery life is approximately 300 photos per charge with alkaline batteries.
Cleaning the Camera and Lens
Use a soft, lint-free cloth to clean the camera body. For the lens, use a lens brush or a specialized lens cleaning cloth and solution. Avoid touching the lens surface directly with your fingers.
Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your camera, try the following common solutions:
- Camera does not power on: Check if batteries are inserted correctly and fully charged.
- "Memory Full" message: Delete unnecessary files or insert a new/empty SD card.
- Blurred images: Ensure Dual Image Stabilization is active. Use a tripod in low light or for telephoto shots. Check shutter speed settings.
- Lens cap error: If the lens cap is on when powering up, turn off the camera, remove the cap, and power on again.
