5. Setup

Follow these steps for initial setup:

  1. Power Connection: Connect the external power supply to the mixer's power input and then to a suitable power outlet. Ensure the mixer is switched off before connecting.
  2. Output Connection: Connect the MAIN OUT jacks to your amplifier, powered speakers, or recording interface. For monitoring, connect your headphones to the PHONES jack or control room monitors to the CTRL ROOM OUT jacks.
  3. Input Connection:
    • For microphones, connect via the XLR inputs. If using condenser microphones, ensure the +48V PHANTOM power is activated (see Operating section).
    • For line-level instruments (keyboards, guitars with preamps) or other audio devices, connect via the 1/4" LINE inputs.
    • For stereo playback devices (CD player, smartphone), use the CD/TAPE IN RCA jacks.
  4. Initial Settings: Before powering on, set all LEVEL, TRIM, EQ, FX, PAN/BAL, MAIN MIX, PHONES/CTRL, and AUX RETURN knobs to their minimum (fully counter-clockwise) positions.

6. Operating

6.1 Powering On/Off

After all connections are made and initial settings are at minimum, power on your amplifier/speakers first, then the M-602 mixer. To power off, reverse the order: mixer first, then amplifier/speakers.

6.2 Adjusting Input Levels

  1. TRIM (Mono Channels): For mono channels, gradually increase the TRIM knob until the CLIP LED flashes only occasionally during the loudest parts of the input signal. Then, slightly reduce TRIM until the LED no longer flashes.
  2. Channel LEVEL: Slowly raise the LEVEL knob for the active channel to send its signal to the main mix.
  3. MAIN MIX: Gradually increase the MAIN MIX knob to set the overall output volume. Monitor the LED level meter to avoid clipping (red LEDs).

6.3 Using the Equalizer (EQ)

Each channel has a 3-band EQ (High, Mid, Low). The center position is flat (no boost or cut). Turn clockwise to boost frequencies, counter-clockwise to cut them. Experiment to achieve the desired tone for each input.

6.4 Phantom Power (+48V)

If using condenser microphones, press the +48V PHANTOM switch. The corresponding LED will illuminate. Ensure dynamic microphones are not connected when phantom power is active, as this can cause damage to some dynamic microphones.

6.5 FX Send/Return

To use an external effects processor:

  1. Connect the FX SEND jack to the input of your effects processor.
  2. Connect the output of your effects processor to the STEREO AUX RETURN jacks.
  3. Use the FX knob on each channel to send signal to the processor.
  4. Use the AUX RETURN knob in the main section to control the overall level of the returned effect signal in the mix.

6.6 Monitoring

Adjust the PHONES/CTRL knob to set the listening volume for your headphones or control room monitors.

7. Maintenance

Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your mixer.

  • Cleaning: Disconnect the power supply before cleaning. Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe the surface of the mixer. Do not use liquid cleaners, solvents, or abrasive materials.
  • Storage: When not in use for extended periods, store the mixer in a dry, dust-free environment.
  • Cable Care: Avoid bending or kinking cables excessively. Store cables neatly to prevent damage.

8. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues, consult this section before contacting support.
