Introduction to The Web
The Web is a strategic board game designed for two players. It simulates a conflict between two spider clans, where players strategically move their spiders to capture opponents' pieces by forming larger groups. This manual provides comprehensive instructions for setting up and playing the game.
Game Components
Before starting, ensure all components are present:
- 1 Game Board: The playing surface with a grid of intersections.
- 18 Spider Pieces: 9 white spiders and 9 red spiders.
- 1 Cloth Bag: Used for storing game pieces.
- Game Rules: This instruction manual.

This image displays the game box for FoxMind Games The Web, featuring the title and a glimpse of the game components. Beside it, the game board is laid out with several red and white spider pieces positioned on the intersections, illustrating a game in progress.
Setup
- Place the game board on a flat surface between the two players.
- Each player chooses a color: either white or red.
- Each player takes their 9 spider pieces of their chosen color.
- Players decide who goes first.
- Players take turns placing one of their spider pieces on any empty intersection on the board. This continues until all 18 spider pieces (9 of each color) have been placed on the board.
How to Play (Operating)
The game proceeds in turns after all pieces are placed.
Player's Turn
On your turn, you must move one of your spider pieces.
- Movement: A spider piece can move along any line on the board to an adjacent empty intersection.
- Capturing: If, after your move, your spider piece is part of a group of your spiders that is larger than an adjacent group of your opponent's spiders, you capture the opponent's group.
- Group Definition: A group consists of two or more adjacent spiders of the same color, connected by lines on the board.
- Capture Mechanism: When a capture occurs, all captured opponent's spiders are removed from the board.
- No Self-Capture: You cannot capture your own spiders.
- Mandatory Move: You must move a spider piece on your turn. If no legal moves are available, you lose your turn.
Example of Capture
If you move a red spider to form a group of 3 red spiders adjacent to a group of 2 white spiders, the 2 white spiders are captured and removed from the board.
Game End
The game ends when one of the following conditions is met:
- A player has no spider pieces left on the board. That player loses the game.
- A player cannot make a legal move on their turn. That player loses the game.
The player who successfully eliminates all of their opponent's spiders or leaves their opponent with no legal moves is the winner.
Maintenance
To ensure the longevity of your game:
- Store all game components in the provided cloth bag and game box when not in use.
- Keep the game board and pieces away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
- Clean pieces with a dry, soft cloth if necessary. Avoid abrasive cleaners or liquids.
Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues during gameplay:
- Missing Pieces: Double-check the game box and bag. If pieces are genuinely missing, contact customer support.
- Rules Confusion: Reread the relevant section of this manual. For further clarification, search for official FoxMind Games resources online.
- Disputes: In case of disagreement over rules, refer to this manual. If a consensus cannot be reached, players may agree on a house rule for that specific instance.
