Introduction

The Mitsuba MIT305 is a versatile digital camcorder designed to capture your precious moments in both still images and video. This compact device features a 12-megapixel interpolated resolution for photos and records video at 640x480 resolution. Equipped with a 2.4-inch LTPS monitor screen and 4X digital zoom, it offers ease of use for everyday recording.

Setup

1. Battery Installation and Charging

  1. Locate the battery compartment on the camcorder.
  2. Insert the provided rechargeable Li-ion battery, ensuring correct polarity.
  3. Close the battery compartment securely.
  4. Connect the camcorder to a power source using the USB cable for charging. The camcorder can also be powered by 2x AAA batteries via the "Power Box" for temporary use or when the Li-ion battery is being recharged externally.
  5. Allow the battery to fully charge before first use.

2. Memory Card Installation

The MIT305 uses SD cards for expandable memory. It has a built-in memory of 32MB, which is sufficient for approximately 10 pictures or 15 seconds of video. For extended use, an SD card is highly recommended.

  • Locate the SD card slot, typically near the battery compartment or on the side of the device.
  • Insert an SD card (up to 2GB capacity) into the slot until it clicks into place. Note: SDHC cards are not supported by this device.
  • To remove, gently push the card in until it springs out.

Operating Instructions

Powering On/Off

Press and hold the Power button to turn the camcorder on or off. The 2.4-inch LTPS monitor screen will illuminate.

Basic Photo and Video Capture

  • Mode Selection: Use the mode dial or button to switch between still photo mode and video recording mode.
  • Taking Photos: In photo mode, frame your shot using the LCD screen. Press the Shutter button to capture an image. Image resolutions include 4036x3026, 3648x2736, 2048x1536, and 1600x1200.
  • Recording Videos: In video mode, press the Record button to start recording. Press it again to stop. Movie resolutions are 640x480 and 320x240.

Zoom Function

The MIT305 features a 4X digital zoom. Use the zoom controls (typically a rocker switch) to zoom in or out. Digital zoom may result in some loss of image quality compared to optical zoom.

Focus

The camcorder has a fixed focus range: 40cm~60cm for macro, 1.5m~3.0m for normal, and 3m~∞ for infinity. Ensure your subject is within these ranges for clear images.

Exposure Control

Adjust the exposure compensation from -1.5 to +1.5 to brighten or darken your images as needed, especially in challenging lighting conditions.

White Balance

Select the appropriate white balance setting to ensure accurate color reproduction. Options include Auto, Sunny, Cloudy, Tungsten, and Fluorescent.

Self-Timer

For self-portraits or group photos, activate the self-timer. Available settings are 5s, 10s, and 20s delay.

Built-in Flash

The camcorder includes a built-in flash for illuminating subjects in low-light conditions. Ensure the flash is enabled in the settings if required.

Connecting to a PC (PC Camera Mode)

To use the MIT305 as a PC camera or transfer files, connect it to your computer using the supplied USB cable. The camcorder supports PC Camera resolutions of 640x480 and 320x240. Install the necessary drivers from the included software CD if prompted by your operating system.

File Formats

The camcorder saves images as JPG, videos as AVI, and audio recordings as WAV files.

Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the camcorder body. For the lens and screen, use a specialized lens cleaning cloth and solution. Avoid abrasive materials or harsh chemicals.
  • Battery Care: Store the rechargeable Li-ion battery in a cool, dry place when not in use. If storing for extended periods, charge the battery to about 50% capacity. Avoid fully discharging the battery frequently.
  • Storage: When not in use, store the camcorder in its carrying case in a dry, dust-free environment, away from extreme temperatures and direct sunlight.
  • Firmware Updates: Check the manufacturer's website periodically for any available firmware updates, though support for this model may be limited.

Troubleshooting

Problem Possible Cause / Solution
Camcorder does not power on. Battery is depleted or incorrectly installed. Ensure the Li-ion battery is charged or use the Power Box with fresh AAA batteries. Check battery polarity.
"Card Full" error message. The memory card is full or not recognized. Delete unnecessary files, or insert a new/formatted SD card. Ensure the SD card is not an SDHC type, as these are not compatible. The maximum supported SD card size is 2GB.
Poor image/video quality. Lens may be dirty. Clean the lens with a soft cloth. Lighting conditions may be poor; ensure adequate light. Digital zoom can reduce quality; try to shoot without excessive zoom. Ensure subjects are within the camera's focus range.
Cannot connect to PC. USB cable may be faulty or not properly connected. Ensure drivers from the software CD are installed on your computer. Try a different USB port.
Buttons are stiff or unresponsive. This can be a characteristic of the device. Ensure you are pressing buttons firmly.
