1. Introduction

2. Setup

2.1. Battery Installation

The Nikon F601 requires a 6V lithium battery for operation. To install the battery:

  1. Locate the battery compartment cover on the bottom of the camera.
  2. Open the cover by sliding or twisting it according to the indicator.
  3. Insert the 6V lithium battery, ensuring the correct polarity (+/-) as indicated inside the compartment.
  4. Close the battery compartment cover securely.

2.2. Lens Attachment

To attach a lens to the camera body:

  1. Remove the body cap from the camera and the rear cap from the lens.
  2. Align the mounting index (usually a white dot) on the lens with the corresponding index on the camera body.
  3. Insert the lens into the camera's lens mount and rotate it clockwise until it clicks into place.

2.3. Film Loading

The F601 uses 35mm film. To load a film roll:

  1. Open the camera back by pulling up the film rewind knob.
  2. Place the film cartridge into the film chamber.
  3. Pull the film leader across to the take-up spool, ensuring it engages with the sprocket teeth.
  4. Close the camera back firmly. The camera will automatically advance the film to the first frame.

3. Operating the Camera

3.1. Power On/Off

To power on the camera, slide the power switch (located near the shutter release button) to the 'ON' position. The top LCD panel will illuminate, displaying current settings. To power off, slide the switch to 'OFF'.

3.2. Exposure Modes

The F601 offers several exposure modes:

  • P (Programmed Auto): The camera automatically sets both shutter speed and aperture for optimal exposure.
  • S (Shutter-Priority Auto): You set the shutter speed, and the camera selects the appropriate aperture.
  • A (Aperture-Priority Auto): You set the aperture, and the camera selects the appropriate shutter speed.
  • M (Manual): You manually set both shutter speed and aperture.

3.3. Autofocus Operation

To use autofocus, ensure the lens is set to AF mode. Press the shutter release button halfway down to activate the autofocus system. The camera will focus on the subject within the active focus area. A focus confirmation indicator in the viewfinder will light up when focus is achieved.

3.4. Shutter Release

Once focus is achieved and exposure settings are satisfactory, press the shutter release button fully to take a photograph. The camera will automatically advance the film to the next frame.

3.5. Film Rewinding

When the entire roll of film has been exposed, the camera will automatically rewind the film back into its cartridge. If manual rewind is desired before the roll is finished, consult the camera's specific controls for manual rewind (typically a button on the bottom or side).

4. Maintenance

4.1. Cleaning the Camera

Regular cleaning helps maintain your camera's performance and longevity:

  • Use a soft, lint-free cloth to wipe the camera body.
  • For the lens, use a lens brush or blower to remove dust, followed by a lens cleaning solution and a microfiber cloth if necessary. Avoid touching the lens surface with your fingers.
  • Keep the viewfinder and LCD screen clean with a soft cloth.

4.2. Battery Care

Remove the battery if the camera will not be used for an extended period to prevent leakage. Store batteries in a cool, dry place.

4.3. Storage

Store the camera in a dry, dust-free environment, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Use a camera bag for protection during transport.
