Operating Instructions

The NEEWER 5-in-1 reflector offers five distinct surfaces, each designed for a specific lighting effect:

  • Translucent Diffuser: This is the base panel. Use it to soften direct light, reducing harsh shadows and creating a more even illumination. Position it between the light source and the subject.
  • Silver Reflector: Zips onto the translucent panel. Provides a bright, specular reflection, increasing contrast and highlighting. Ideal for cool tones and maximizing light output.
  • Gold Reflector: Zips onto the translucent panel. Produces a warm, golden reflection, adding warmth to skin tones and overall scene. Suitable for sunset effects or enhancing natural warmth.
  • White Reflector: Zips onto the translucent panel. Offers a soft, neutral fill light, brightening shadows without altering color temperature. Excellent for subtle light enhancement.
  • Black Absorber: Zips onto the translucent panel. Used to block unwanted light or absorb reflections, creating deeper shadows and increasing contrast. Position it to subtract light from specific areas.

Attaching and Changing Surfaces

The silver, gold, white, and black surfaces are covers that zip onto the main translucent diffuser panel. To change surfaces:

  1. Locate the zipper on the edge of the current cover.
  2. Unzip and remove the current cover.
  3. Align the desired cover with the translucent panel and carefully zip it into place.

Folding and Storage

To collapse the reflector for storage:

  1. Hold the reflector by its edges with both hands.
  2. Twist your wrists in opposite directions, bringing the edges towards each other to form a figure-eight shape.
  3. Fold the figure-eight into three smaller circles.
  4. Secure the folded reflector with the elastic band (if present) or place it directly into the carrying bag.

Maintenance

  • Cleaning: If surfaces become dirty, gently wipe with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.
  • Storage: Always store the reflector in its carrying bag when not in use to protect it from dust and damage.
  • Handling: Avoid sharp objects that could puncture or tear the fabric. Do not apply excessive force when folding or unfolding.

Troubleshooting

Reflector Does Not Expand Fully

Ensure the reflector is completely removed from its bag and any securing straps are released. Gently shake it to help the spring frame expand. If it remains partially folded, carefully manipulate the frame to encourage full expansion.

Difficulty Folding the Reflector

Practice the figure-eight twisting motion. It may take a few attempts to master. Ensure you are twisting in opposite directions and allowing the frame to naturally collapse into smaller circles.
