Introduction
This manual provides essential instructions for the proper use, maintenance, and inspection of the Guardian Fall Protection 11200 IS-72 6-Foot Internal Shock Lanyard. This single-leg lanyard is designed as a component of a personal fall arrest system (PFAS). It features heavy-duty outer polyester webbing and a polyester core specifically engineered to reduce impact forces during a fall. The internal shock absorption design makes it lightweight and eliminates the need for an external shock pack.
Important Safety Information
WARNING: Failure to follow all instructions and warnings can result in serious injury or death. This equipment must be used by trained and competent persons only. Always inspect equipment before each use.
- Read and understand all instructions before using this product.
- Ensure all components of your Personal Fall Arrest System (PFAS) are compatible and meet applicable standards.
- Always connect to an anchor point capable of supporting 5,000 lbs (22.2 kN) per worker.
- Maintain adequate fall clearance to prevent contact with lower levels or obstructions during a fall.
- Never modify or alter the lanyard.

Product Components
The Guardian Fall Protection 11200 IS-72 Lanyard consists of the following primary components:
- Webbing: Heavy-duty polyester webbing, 6 feet in length.
- Internal Shock Absorber: A polyester core sewn within the webbing designed to deploy and absorb energy during a fall.
- Snap Hooks: Two stainless steel snap hooks for connection to a harness and an anchor point.

Setup and Connection
Proper connection of the lanyard is critical for effective fall protection.
- Connect to Harness: Attach one snap hook of the lanyard to the dorsal D-ring of your full-body harness. Ensure the snap hook gate is fully closed and locked.
- Connect to Anchor Point: Attach the other snap hook of the lanyard to an approved anchor point. The anchor point must be capable of supporting 5,000 lbs (22.2 kN) per worker attached. Ensure the snap hook gate is fully closed and locked.
- Verify Connections: Double-check both connections to ensure they are secure and properly engaged.

Operating Instructions
When using the 11200 IS-72 Lanyard, always adhere to the following guidelines:
- Pre-Use Inspection: Perform a thorough inspection of the lanyard before each use as detailed in the Maintenance section.
- Fall Clearance: Calculate and ensure sufficient fall clearance below the work area. This includes the lanyard length (6 ft), deceleration distance (up to 3.5 ft for internal shock lanyards), harness stretch, and a safety factor (e.g., 3 ft).
- Vertical Use: This lanyard is designed for vertical use in a fall arrest system. Avoid using it in a manner that could result in a swing fall.
- Anchor Point Location: Position the anchor point directly above the work area whenever possible to minimize swing fall hazards.
- Environmental Conditions: Be aware of environmental factors such as extreme temperatures, corrosive chemicals, or sharp edges that could compromise the lanyard's integrity.
Maintenance and Storage
Inspection
A competent person must inspect the lanyard before each use and periodically, as required by regulations (e.g., annually). Remove from service if any of the following are observed:
- Cuts, fraying, burns, or chemical damage to the webbing.
- Distortion, cracks, corrosion, or improper operation of snap hooks.
- Any signs of deployment of the internal shock absorber (e.g., stitching torn, webbing stretched).
- Missing or illegible labels.
- Any other condition that raises doubt about the lanyard's integrity.
Cleaning
Clean the lanyard with a mild soap and water solution. Rinse thoroughly with clean water and allow to air dry completely in a shaded area, away from direct sunlight or heat sources. Do not use harsh chemicals or solvents.
Storage
Store the lanyard in a cool, dry, clean area, away from direct sunlight, extreme temperatures, corrosive environments, and sharp objects. Ensure it is not stored near machinery or in areas where it could be damaged.
Troubleshooting
| Issue | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Lanyard appears stretched or damaged. | Subjected to a fall, excessive wear, chemical exposure. | Immediately remove from service. Do not use. |
| Snap hook gate does not close or lock properly. | Debris in mechanism, spring damage, distortion. | Clean mechanism. If issue persists, remove from service. |
| Labels are missing or illegible. | Wear and tear, chemical exposure. | Remove from service. Labels contain critical information. |
