Introduction
Thank you for choosing the ACDelco 34700 3-1/2 Ton Capacity Garage Jack. This manual provides important information for the safe operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of your new garage jack. Please read this manual thoroughly before use and keep it for future reference. Understanding and following these instructions will ensure safe and efficient use of the product.
Important Safety Information
WARNING: Failure to heed these warnings may result in personal injury or property damage.
- Always read and understand the entire instruction manual before operating this jack.
- Do not exceed the rated capacity of 3-1/2 tons (7,000 lb).
- Use this jack only on a hard, level surface.
- Immediately after lifting the vehicle, support it with appropriate jack stands. Never work under a vehicle supported only by a jack.
- Ensure the vehicle's parking brake is engaged and the wheels are chocked before lifting.
- Center the load on the jack saddle. Off-center loads can cause the jack to tip.
- Do not use the jack for purposes other than lifting vehicles.
- Keep hands and feet clear of moving parts and the area under the load.
- Wear appropriate safety gear, including eye protection.
- Do not modify the jack or use unauthorized attachments.
- Lower the load slowly and carefully.
Setup and Initial Preparation
- Unpacking: Carefully remove the jack from its packaging. Inspect for any damage that may have occurred during shipping. Do not use if damaged.
- Handle Assembly: Insert the handle into the handle socket on the jack. Secure it according to the instructions provided with the handle components (typically involves aligning holes and inserting a pin or tightening a set screw).
- Bleeding the Hydraulic System: Air can become trapped in the hydraulic system during shipping or storage, affecting performance.
- Turn the release valve counter-clockwise one full turn to open it.
- Pump the handle 10-15 full strokes without a load.
- Turn the release valve clockwise to close it.
- Test the jack by lifting it to its full height and then lowering it. Repeat if necessary until the jack operates smoothly.
Operating Instructions
- Prepare the Vehicle: Park the vehicle on a hard, level surface. Engage the parking brake and chock the wheels that will remain on the ground.
- Position the Jack: Locate the manufacturer's recommended lifting points on the vehicle chassis. Position the jack so the saddle is centered under the lifting point.
- Lifting the Vehicle:
- Ensure the release valve is fully closed by turning it clockwise.
- Pump the handle to raise the jack. The twin 20mm hydraulic pumps will provide rapid lifting until the load reaches approximately 90 pounds, then convert to regular pump action for easier lifting of heavier loads.
- Lift the vehicle only high enough to place jack stands.
- Once the desired height is reached, immediately place appropriately rated jack stands under the vehicle's frame at the manufacturer's recommended support points.
- Slowly open the release valve counter-clockwise to lower the vehicle onto the jack stands. The jack should bear no load once the vehicle is resting on the stands.
- Lowering the Vehicle:
- Ensure the area around and under the vehicle is clear of obstructions and personnel.
- Raise the vehicle slightly off the jack stands by pumping the jack handle.
- Remove the jack stands.
- Slowly turn the release valve counter-clockwise to lower the vehicle completely to the ground. Control the lowering speed by adjusting how much you open the valve.
- Once the vehicle is fully lowered, remove the jack from under the vehicle.
Maintenance
- Lubrication: Periodically lubricate pivot points, axles, and lifting arm with light grease or oil to ensure smooth operation.
- Hydraulic Fluid: Check the hydraulic fluid level every three months. To check, lower the jack completely, remove the oil filler plug, and ensure the fluid is just below the filler hole. Use only high-quality hydraulic jack oil. Do not use brake fluid or motor oil.
- Cleaning: Keep the jack clean and free of dirt, grease, and corrosive materials.
- Storage: Store the jack in a dry, clean area with the ram fully retracted to prevent rust and extend seal life.
- Inspection: Before each use, inspect the jack for any signs of damage, leaks, or loose parts. Do not use if damaged.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|

| Jack lifts slowly or erratically. | Air in system; Low hydraulic fluid; Worn seals. | Bleed air from system; Add hydraulic fluid; Contact service for seal replacement. |
| Jack will not hold load. | Release valve not fully closed; Internal leak; Overload. | Ensure valve is fully closed; Contact service for internal leak; Reduce load. |
| Jack lowers too quickly. | Release valve opened too far. | Control lowering speed by slowly opening the release valve. |
