Safety Information

Please read all instructions carefully before installing and operating your amplifier. Failure to do so may result in personal injury or damage to the amplifier or vehicle.

  • Always disconnect the vehicle's negative battery terminal before making any power connections.
  • Ensure all wiring is properly routed and secured to prevent pinching or damage.
  • Use appropriate gauge wiring for power and ground connections as specified in the installation section.
  • Install the amplifier in a well-ventilated area, away from direct sunlight or heat sources.
  • Do not expose the amplifier to moisture or extreme temperatures.
  • If you are unsure about any installation steps, consult a professional car audio installer.

Setup Guide

Before Installation

  • Plan your wiring layout carefully.
  • Ensure the vehicle's battery is disconnected.
  • Choose a mounting location that is dry, well-ventilated, and secure. Avoid mounting on carpet or in areas prone to vibration.

Wiring Connections

The Quantum QB2150 amplifier features direct-connect integrated terminals for power, ground, remote, and speaker outputs. Refer to the image below for a visual representation of the amplifier's layout.

  1. Power Connection (+12V): Connect a suitable gauge power cable (e.g., 8 AWG or 4 AWG depending on total system power) from the amplifier's +12V terminal directly to the positive terminal of the vehicle's battery. Install an in-line fuse holder within 18 inches (45 cm) of the battery.
  2. Ground Connection (GND): Connect a power cable of the same gauge as the +12V cable from the amplifier's GND terminal to a clean, unpainted metal point on the vehicle's chassis. Ensure a good electrical connection.
  3. Remote Turn-On (REM): Connect a small gauge wire (e.g., 18 AWG) from the amplifier's REM terminal to the remote turn-on output of your head unit. This wire turns the amplifier on and off with your head unit.
  4. RCA Input: Connect RCA cables from the pre-amp outputs of your head unit to the RCA input jacks on the amplifier.
  5. Speaker Output: Connect your speakers to the amplifier's speaker output terminals. For stereo operation, connect one speaker to each channel. For bridged mono operation, refer to the amplifier's specific bridging instructions (typically using the positive terminal of one channel and the negative terminal of the other). Ensure correct polarity.
  6. Fuse Installation: Insert the specified ATC 20 amp fuse into the amplifier's fuse holder.

Operation

Initial Power-Up

  1. After all connections are made and verified, reconnect the vehicle's negative battery terminal.
  2. Turn on your head unit. The amplifier should power on, indicated by an illuminated power LED.
  3. Start with the amplifier's gain control set to minimum.
  4. Play a familiar audio track at a moderate volume level on your head unit.
  5. Slowly increase the amplifier's gain control until the desired volume is achieved without distortion. Do not set the gain too high, as this can cause clipping and damage to speakers.

Adjusting Settings

  • Gain Control: Matches the amplifier's input sensitivity to the output voltage of your head unit. Adjust for clean, undistorted sound.
  • Bass Boost (45Hz, 0-12dB): Allows for an increase in bass output at 45Hz. Use sparingly to avoid distortion.
  • Subsonic Filter (15-55Hz): (If applicable for specific configurations) Filters out extremely low frequencies that are inaudible and can waste amplifier power or damage subwoofers.

Maintenance

  • Keep the amplifier clean and free of dust. Use a soft, dry cloth for cleaning.
  • Ensure adequate ventilation around the amplifier to prevent overheating. Do not block the heat sink fins.
  • Periodically check all wiring connections for tightness and corrosion.
  • If the amplifier's protection circuit activates (indicated by a protection LED), turn off the system, identify and resolve the issue, then restart.

Troubleshooting

Problem Possible Cause Solution
No Power / No Sound Blown fuse, poor power/ground connection, no remote signal. Check amplifier fuse, battery fuse, power and ground wires. Verify remote wire connection to head unit.
Distorted Sound Gain set too high, poor speaker connection, damaged speaker, low input signal. Reduce gain. Check speaker wiring for shorts or loose connections. Inspect speakers for damage. Ensure head unit output is clean.
Amplifier Overheating Insufficient ventilation, impedance too low, prolonged high volume. Ensure proper airflow around amplifier. Check speaker impedance. Reduce volume or allow amplifier to cool.
Protection LED On Short circuit in speaker wiring, amplifier overheating, DC offset. Check all speaker wires for shorts to ground or each other. Allow amplifier to cool. Disconnect RCA inputs to check for DC offset from head unit.
Engine Noise / Whine Poor ground connection, RCA cables too close to power wires, faulty RCA cables. Improve ground connection. Reroute RCA cables away from power wires. Try different RCA cables.
