This manual provides detailed instructions for assembling, operating, and maintaining your BANDAI Hobby Master Grade 1/100 Gundam Astray Red Frame Custom Model Kit. This kit features a dual katana-wielding Gundam with a transforming backpack sword, offering intricate detail and articulation. The model is designed for snap-together assembly, requiring no glue, and is molded in separate colors to minimize the need for painting.

Setup and Assembly

Before beginning assembly, ensure you have a clean workspace and the necessary tools. Recommended tools include:

• Plastic nippers or side cutters for cleanly detaching parts from runners.
• Hobby knife or file for smoothing out nub marks.
• Tweezers for applying small stickers and decals.

Follow the included instruction manual (printed in Japanese, but visually detailed) step-by-step. The parts are designed for snap-fit assembly, meaning they interlock without adhesive. Pay close attention to the orientation of each piece to ensure correct fitment. Carefully remove parts from the runners to avoid stress marks or breakage. Smooth any remaining nub marks for a cleaner finish.

The kit includes 27 runners, foil stickers, dry decals, and Tetron stickers. Apply decals and stickers as indicated in the manual for additional detail. Some builders may choose to panel line the model to enhance its mechanical appearance.

Operating and Posing

The Gundam Astray Red Frame Custom features extensive articulation, allowing for a wide range of dynamic poses. The joints in the arms, legs, torso, and head are designed for flexibility. The hands are articulated with three separate moving parts to securely grip weapons.

• Katanas: The two chrome-plated katanas, Gerbera Straight and Tiger Pierce, can be held in the hands or stored in their sheaths, which attach to the side skirt armor.
• Tactical Arms II-L: The backpack unit is highly versatile. It can transform into various modes, including a giant sword, a bow with a beam effect part, or a flight unit. Refer to the manual for specific transformation steps.
• Action Base 2: Utilize the included Action Base 2 display stand to support the model in aerial poses or to maintain balance when equipped with the heavy Tactical Arms. The stand allows for adjustable height and angle.

Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and appearance of your model kit, follow these maintenance guidelines:

• Cleaning: Dust the model regularly with a soft brush or compressed air to prevent dust buildup. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.
• Handling: Handle the model with care, especially delicate parts like antennas and small accessories. Avoid applying excessive force to joints or thin pieces.
• Storage: Store the model away from direct sunlight, extreme temperatures, and high humidity to prevent material degradation or discoloration.

Troubleshooting

While this kit is designed for high quality, some minor issues may arise:

• Loose Joints: If certain joints, such as the chest-to-shoulder connection, become loose over time or with frequent posing, a small amount of clear nail polish or hobby-grade plastic cement applied to the ball joint (allow to dry completely before reassembly) can increase friction. Alternatively, posing putty can help stabilize the model in specific stances.
• Nub Marks: Despite careful removal, small plastic nubs may remain on parts. These can be carefully trimmed with a hobby knife or sanded smooth with fine-grit sandpaper or a hobby file for a cleaner finish.
• Parts Falling Off: Ensure all parts are fully snapped into place. For frequently detached small parts, a tiny drop of plastic cement can provide a more permanent bond, but this will limit future disassembly.
