This image displays the front of the CyberPower CP850PFCLCD UPS, highlighting its compact mini-tower design and the integrated LCD panel. The LCD panel provides real-time information on battery capacity, power status (on line, saving), and current input voltage, which is shown as 120V. The unit is black with the CyberPower logo and "850VA" printed at the bottom.

Important Safety Instructions

Please read and follow all instructions carefully before installing and operating the unit. Save this manual for future reference.

  • Do not expose the UPS to rain or moisture.
  • Do not block ventilation openings. Ensure adequate airflow around the unit.
  • Connect the UPS to a grounded AC power outlet only.
  • Do not use extension cords with the UPS.
  • Internal batteries are not user-serviceable. Refer to qualified service personnel for battery replacement.
  • Ensure the total current draw of connected equipment does not exceed the UPS's capacity (850VA/510W).
  • This UPS is designed for indoor use only.

Setup Instructions

  1. Unpacking: Carefully unpack the UPS and inspect it for any shipping damage.
  2. Initial Battery Charge: For optimal performance, charge the UPS battery for at least 8 hours before connecting any equipment. Plug the UPS into a standard wall outlet.
  3. Connecting Equipment:
    • Connect critical equipment (e.g., computer, monitor) to the Battery Backup & Surge Protected outlets. These outlets provide power during outages and protect against surges.
    • Connect non-critical equipment (e.g., printer, scanner) to the Surge Protected Only outlets. These outlets protect against surges but do not provide battery power during outages.
  4. Connecting to Computer (Optional): Use the provided USB cable to connect the UPS to your computer's USB port. This allows the PowerPanel Personal Edition software to monitor the UPS and perform automatic shutdowns during extended power outages. A serial port is also available for connection.
  5. Network/Phone Line Protection (Optional): Connect network or phone lines through the "NETWORK IN" and "NETWORK OUT" ports on the back of the UPS to protect against surges.
  6. Powering On: Press the power button on the front panel to turn on the UPS. The LCD display will illuminate.

This image shows the rear panel of the CyberPower CP850PFCLCD UPS. It features five NEMA 5-15R outlets labeled "SURGE + BATTERY" for critical devices, and five NEMA 5-15R outlets labeled "SURGE" for non-critical devices. Also visible are the network (RJ45) in/out ports, a USB port, a serial port, and a circuit breaker button for resetting the unit after an overload.

Operating Instructions

LCD Display and Control Buttons

The multifunction color LCD panel provides real-time information about the UPS status. Use the control buttons to navigate and adjust settings:

  • DISPLAY Button: Cycles through various display modes, showing information such as input voltage, output voltage, battery capacity, load level, and estimated runtime.
  • MUTE Button: Silences the audible alarm during a power event.
  • SETUP Button: Enters the setup menu to configure various UPS parameters.
  • ENTER Button: Confirms selections within the setup menu.

Automatic Voltage Regulation (AVR)

The CP850PFCLCD features Automatic Voltage Regulation (AVR). This technology automatically corrects minor voltage fluctuations (sags and surges) without switching to battery power. This preserves battery life and ensures a stable power supply to your connected devices, which is particularly beneficial in areas with unstable utility power.

PowerPanel Personal Edition Software

For advanced monitoring and management, download and install the free PowerPanel Personal Edition software. This software allows you to:

  • Monitor UPS status and power conditions.
  • Configure automatic shutdown of your computer during extended power outages.
  • Schedule self-tests and view power event logs.

Connect the UPS to your computer via the USB cable for software functionality.

Maintenance

Battery Replacement

The UPS contains sealed lead-acid batteries. These batteries are designed for a long service life but will eventually require replacement. Battery replacement should only be performed by qualified service personnel. Contact CyberPower support for assistance with battery replacement.

Caution: Do not attempt to service the battery yourself. Risk of explosion if battery is replaced by an incorrect type. Dispose of used batteries according to local regulations.

Cleaning

To clean the exterior of the UPS, use a soft, dry cloth. Do not use liquid or aerosol cleaners. Ensure the unit is powered off and unplugged from the wall outlet before cleaning.

Circuit Breaker Reset

In case of an overload, the UPS may trip its circuit breaker. If this occurs, disconnect some non-essential equipment, then press the red "CIRCUIT BREAKER" button located on the rear panel to reset the unit. Refer to Figure 2 for the location of the circuit breaker.

Troubleshooting

This section addresses common issues you might encounter with your UPS. If the problem persists, contact CyberPower support.

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
UPS will not turn on.Battery is discharged or not connected.Ensure the UPS is plugged into a live wall outlet and allowed to charge for at least 8 hours. Verify internal battery connections (if accessible and user-serviceable, otherwise contact support).
UPS is on, but connected equipment is not receiving power.Overload condition or equipment not connected to battery backup outlets.Check if the circuit breaker has tripped (press to reset). Ensure critical equipment is plugged into "SURGE + BATTERY" outlets. Reduce the load by unplugging non-essential devices.
UPS beeps continuously.Low battery or overload.During a power outage, this indicates low battery. Save work and shut down equipment. If on utility power, check for overload or a fault condition.
"Wiring Fault" indicator is lit.Improper wiring in the wall outlet.Consult a qualified electrician to inspect the wall outlet wiring.
