1. Introduction

The GLUCOCARD Vital Blood Glucose Monitoring System is designed for the quantitative measurement of glucose in fresh capillary whole blood samples obtained from the fingertip or forearm. This system is intended for self-testing by people with diabetes at home as an aid in monitoring the effectiveness of diabetes control. It is also intended for use by healthcare professionals in a clinical setting.

The GLUCOCARD Vital meter provides fast, accurate results with a small sample size and features auto-coding for ease of use.

2. Important Safety Information

4. Meter Components and Display

4.1 Meter Overview

  • Display Screen: Shows test results, time, date, and various icons.
  • Test Strip Port: Where the test strip is inserted.
  • M Button (Memory): Used to review past test results.
  • Set Button: Used to enter and confirm settings.
  • Up/Down Buttons: Used to navigate menus and adjust settings.

5. Setup

5.1 Battery Installation

  1. Open the battery compartment cover on the back of the meter.
  2. Insert the included Lithium Ion battery (CR2032) with the positive (+) side facing up.
  3. Close the battery compartment cover securely.

5.2 Setting Date and Time

  1. With the meter off, press and hold the 'Set' button until the year flashes on the display.
  2. Use the Up/Down buttons to adjust the year, then press 'Set' to confirm.
  3. Repeat this process for month, day, hour, and minute.
  4. Press 'Set' one last time to exit the setting mode.

6. Operating the Meter (Performing a Blood Glucose Test)

6.1 Preparing the Lancing Device

  1. Unscrew the lancing device cap.
  2. Insert a new lancet firmly into the lancet holder.
  3. Twist off the protective cap from the lancet.
  4. Replace the lancing device cap.
  5. Adjust the penetration depth by rotating the cap (start with a shallower setting and adjust as needed).
  6. Pull back the cocking barrel until it clicks, indicating it is ready to use.

6.2 Performing a Test

  1. Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and warm water. Dry completely.
  2. Insert a new GLUCOCARD Vital Test Strip into the meter's test strip port. The meter will turn on automatically.

  4. When the blood drop symbol flashes, the meter is ready for a blood sample.
  5. Hold the lancing device firmly against the side of your fingertip and press the release button.
  6. Gently milk your finger to form a small drop of blood. Do not squeeze excessively.
  7. Touch the tip of the test strip to the blood drop. The blood will be drawn into the strip automatically. Do not apply blood to the top of the strip.
  8. The meter will begin counting down. Results will appear in approximately 7 seconds.
  9. After the result is displayed, remove the test strip. The meter will turn off automatically.
  10. Dispose of the used test strip and lancet safely in a sharps container.

7. Memory and Data Management

The GLUCOCARD Vital meter stores up to 250 blood glucose test results with date and time. It also calculates 14-day and 30-day averages.

7.1 Reviewing Stored Results

  1. With the meter off, press the 'M' button. The most recent result will be displayed.
  2. Press the 'M' button repeatedly to scroll through previous results.
  3. To view averages, continue pressing 'M' past the individual results.

The meter is also downloadable for seamless data management with compatible software (sold separately).

8. Maintenance and Care

8.1 Cleaning the Meter

Clean the exterior of the meter regularly with a soft cloth dampened with mild detergent or a 70% isopropyl alcohol solution. Do not immerse the meter in water or any cleaning solution.

8.2 Storage

Store the meter and test strips in a cool, dry place between 39°F and 86°F (4°C and 30°C). Do not store in direct sunlight or extreme temperatures. Keep test strips in their original vial with the cap tightly closed.
