1. Setup and Initial Use
1.1 Unpacking and Inspection
Carefully remove your MIDO watch from its packaging. Inspect the watch for any visible damage. Ensure all protective films are removed from the crystal and case back.
1.2 Initial Winding
Your MIDO Automatic Watch is powered by the motion of your wrist. If the watch has stopped or has not been worn for an extended period, it requires manual winding to initiate operation. To do this, unscrew the crown (if applicable) and turn it clockwise approximately 20-30 times. This will build up sufficient power reserve to start the movement.
1.3 Setting the Time and Date
- Pull the crown out to position 2 (first click) to set the date. Turn the crown clockwise or counter-clockwise until the correct date is displayed. Avoid setting the date between 9 PM and 3 AM, as this can damage the movement.
- Pull the crown out to position 3 (second click) to set the time. Turn the crown to move the hour and minute hands. To ensure accurate time setting, synchronize with a reliable time source. Push the crown back into position 1 (fully in) to start the watch.
- For models with a screw-down crown: After setting, gently push the crown in and screw it back down tightly to ensure water resistance.

2. Operating Your Watch
2.1 Automatic Movement
Your MIDO watch features an automatic mechanical movement. This means it is powered by the natural motion of your wrist. When worn regularly (approximately 8-10 hours a day), the watch will remain wound. If the watch is not worn for an extended period, it may stop and require manual winding as described in Section 1.2.
2.2 Chronograph Function
The watch is equipped with a chronograph function for measuring elapsed time. It typically operates using two pushers located on the side of the case, adjacent to the crown.
- Start: Press the upper pusher to start the chronograph (the central second hand will begin to move).
- Stop: Press the upper pusher again to stop the chronograph. The elapsed time will be indicated by the central second hand and the subdials.
- Reset: Press the lower pusher to reset the chronograph hands to zero. This can only be done when the chronograph is stopped.
2.3 Water Resistance
This watch has a water resistance rating of 50 meters (5 ATM). This means it is suitable for short periods of recreational swimming. It is not suitable for diving, snorkeling, or high-impact water sports. Always ensure the crown is fully pushed in and, if applicable, screwed down tightly before any contact with water.
3. Maintenance and Care
3.1 Cleaning Your Watch
To maintain the appearance of your watch, clean the case and metal bracelet (if applicable) regularly with a soft, dry cloth. For water-resistant models, you may use a soft brush and soapy water, then rinse thoroughly with fresh water and dry with a soft cloth. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.
3.2 Leather Strap Care
The leather strap is susceptible to wear and tear from moisture, sweat, and direct sunlight. To prolong its life:
- Avoid prolonged exposure to water.
- Clean with a damp cloth and mild soap, then allow to air dry completely.
- Avoid direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
3.3 Regular Servicing
Like any precision instrument, your automatic watch requires periodic servicing to ensure optimal performance and accuracy. It is recommended to have your watch serviced by an authorized MIDO service center every 3-5 years. This includes checking the movement, replacing gaskets, and testing water resistance.
4. Troubleshooting
4.1 Watch Not Running
- Insufficient Power Reserve: If the watch has not been worn or manually wound, it may have run out of power. Manually wind the watch as described in Section 1.2.
- Crown Position: Ensure the crown is fully pushed in (position 1).
4.2 Date/Time Not Changing
- Crown Position: Verify the crown is in the correct position for setting (position 2 for date, position 3 for time).
- Time Zone: Ensure the watch has passed midnight for the date to advance.
4.3 Condensation Under Crystal
If you notice condensation under the crystal, this indicates a potential breach in water resistance. Immediately take your watch to an authorized service center to prevent further damage to the movement.
