2. Setup

2.1. Battery Installation and Charging

The Canon PowerShot S95 uses a Lithium-ion Battery Pack NB-6L. Ensure the battery is fully charged before first use.

  1. Open the battery compartment cover located on the bottom of the camera.
  2. Insert the NB-6L battery pack, ensuring correct orientation as indicated inside the compartment.
  3. Close the battery compartment cover securely.
  4. To charge, connect the battery charger CB-2LY to a power outlet and insert the battery. The charging indicator will show the charging status.

2.2. Memory Card Insertion

The camera supports SD, SDHC, and SDXC memory cards (not included). A memory card is required to store photos and videos.

  1. Open the memory card slot cover, usually located near the battery compartment.
  2. Insert the memory card with the label facing the front of the camera until it clicks into place.
  3. Close the memory card slot cover securely.

2.3. Attaching the Wrist Strap

Attach the included Wrist Strap WS-DC9 to the camera's strap mount to prevent accidental drops.

3. Operating the Camera

3.1. Powering On/Off

Press the POWER button to turn the camera on or off. The lens will extend when powered on.

3.2. Basic Photography

To take a photo:

  1. Point the camera at your subject.
  2. Press the shutter button halfway down to focus. The focus frame will appear green when focus is achieved.
  3. Press the shutter button fully down to capture the image.

3.3. Using the Control Ring

The control ring around the lens allows for quick and precise manual adjustments. Depending on the selected shooting mode, you can assign functions like:

  • Focus: Adjust manual focus.
  • Exposure Compensation: Adjust the brightness of the image.
  • ISO Speed: Control the camera's sensitivity to light.
  • Step Zoom: Zoom in or out in fixed increments.
  • White Balance: Adjust color tones to match the light source.

To customize the control ring function, refer to the camera's on-screen menu settings.

3.4. Video Recording

To record 720p HD video:

  1. Set the camera to video mode (if applicable, or press the dedicated video recording button).
  2. Press the movie button to start recording.
  3. Press the movie button again to stop recording.

Videos can be played back on an HDTV using the mini-HDMI connector and an AV Cable AVC-DC400ST (included).

3.5. Transferring Images and Videos

Connect the camera to a computer using the USB Interface Cable IFC-400PCU (included) to transfer your photos and videos. The Digital Camera Solution CD-ROM provides necessary software for managing your media.

4. Maintenance

4.1. Cleaning the Camera

  • Use a soft, lint-free cloth to clean the camera body.
  • For the lens, use a lens brush or a blower to remove dust, then gently wipe with a lens cleaning cloth. Avoid touching the lens surface with your fingers.
  • Clean the LCD screen with a soft, dry cloth.

4.2. Battery Care

  • Store batteries in a cool, dry place when not in use.
  • Avoid exposing batteries to extreme temperatures.
  • If the camera will not be used for an extended period, remove the battery.

4.3. Storage

Store the camera in a dry, well-ventilated area, away from direct sunlight and high humidity. Use a camera case for protection during transport.
