Hydro-Logic 31040 300-GPD Stealth-RO300 Reverse Osmosis Filter User Manual

Model: Stealth-RO300 (HL31040)

1. Introduction

This manual provides comprehensive instructions for the installation, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of your Hydro-Logic 31040 300-GPD Stealth-RO300 Reverse Osmosis Filter system. This system is designed to purify water by removing up to 98% of chlorine and other contaminants, producing up to 300 gallons per day of filtered water.

Please read this manual thoroughly before installation and operation to ensure proper function and longevity of your unit.

2. Safety Information

  • Always turn off the water supply before performing any maintenance or filter changes.
  • Ensure all connections are secure to prevent leaks.
  • Do not expose the unit to direct sunlight, as materials may not be sunlight resistant.
  • Operate the system within the specified temperature and pressure limits.
  • Keep out of reach of children.

3. Product Overview and Components

The Hydro-Logic Stealth-RO300 system includes the following main components:

  • Reverse Osmosis Unit (main assembly)
  • 5' inlet tubing
  • 8' product water tubing
  • 8' drain tubing
  • Filter wrench
  • Garden hose connector
  • Inline shutoff valve
  • Wall mountable metal bracket

It features a black mounting bracket holding two black cylindrical membrane housings at the top. Below these are two clear filter housings, one containing a green mesh filter and the other a white pleated filter. A pressure gauge is visible on the right side of the black bracket.

4. Setup and Installation

  1. Unpack Components: Carefully remove all items from the packaging and verify that all listed components are present.
  2. Choose Location: Select a suitable location for installation, such as under a sink. Ensure the location is not exposed to direct sunlight. The unit is wall-mountable using the provided metal bracket.
  3. Connect Water Inlet: Attach the garden hose connector to your water source. Connect the 5' inlet tubing from the garden hose connector to the inlet port of the RO system. Ensure the inline shutoff valve is installed on the inlet line.
  4. Connect Product Water Line: Connect the 8' product water tubing to the purified water outlet port of the RO system. Direct this line to a collection container.
  5. Connect Drain Line: Connect the 8' drain tubing to the wastewater outlet port of the RO system. Direct this line to a suitable drain.
  6. Flush System: Before first use, slowly turn on the water supply to the system. Allow the system to flush for approximately 30-60 minutes to remove any carbon fines and air from the filters. Discard the water produced during this initial flush.
  7. Check for Leaks: Carefully inspect all connections for any signs of leaks during and after the initial flush. Tighten connections as necessary.

5. Operating Instructions

Once installed and flushed, operating the Stealth-RO300 is straightforward:

  • Turn On Water Supply: Open the inline shutoff valve to allow water to flow into the system.
  • Monitor Pressure: Observe the pressure gauge to ensure the system is operating within recommended pressure ranges.
  • Collect Purified Water: The system will begin producing purified water from the product water line. Collect this water in a clean container.
  • Automatic Shut-Off: The system features an automatic shut-off cartridge.
  • Production Rate: The system can produce up to 300 gallons per day, with a maximum feed flow rate of 2 GPM. Actual production rates may vary based on water pressure and temperature.

6. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and longevity of your RO system.

Filter Replacement

Filter lifespan depends on water quality and usage. It is recommended to replace filters periodically.

  1. Turn Off Water: Close the inline shutoff valve and turn off the main water supply to the unit.
  2. Depressurize System: Open a faucet connected to the RO system (if applicable) or disconnect a line to release pressure.
  3. Remove Filter Housings: Use the provided filter wrench to unscrew the clear filter housings.
  4. Replace Filters: Remove old filters and insert new ones, ensuring they are correctly seated.
  5. Reassemble: Screw the filter housings back on, hand-tightening first, then using the wrench for a snug fit. Do not overtighten.
  6. Flush System: Slowly turn on the water supply and flush the system for several minutes to remove air and any loose carbon. Check for leaks.

Membrane Replacement

RO membranes typically last longer than pre-filters but will eventually need replacement when water production significantly decreases or water quality declines.

  • Follow steps 1 and 2 from Filter Replacement.
  • Carefully unscrew the black membrane housings.
  • Remove the old membrane(s) and insert new ones, ensuring the O-rings are properly seated.
  • Reassemble the housings and slowly turn on water, flushing the system and checking for leaks.

7. Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Low water productionLow incoming water pressure, clogged filters, clogged RO membrane, low water temperature.Check water pressure. Replace pre-filters. Replace RO membrane. Ensure water temperature is within operating range (up to 140°F / 60°C).
Poor water quality (high PPM)Expired RO membrane, improper membrane installation, high incoming TDS.Replace RO membrane. Reinstall membrane correctly. Consider a booster pump for very high incoming TDS.
Water leaksLoose connections, damaged O-rings, cracked housing.Tighten all connections. Inspect and replace O-rings if damaged. Contact support if housing is cracked.
Excessive wastewaterClogged flow restrictor, low water temperature.Inspect and clear flow restrictor. Ensure water temperature is adequate.
