Setup and Installation

Follow these steps for proper installation of your PoolRx unit:

1. Choose Correct Unit Size: Ensure you have the correct PoolRx+ unit size for your pool or spa's gallon capacity (7,500-20,000 gallons for this model).
2. Clean Filter: Clean and set your filter for optimal results. Refer to the "Recommended Filter Settings" section for specific instructions based on your filter type.
3. Maintain Water Chemistry: Maintain a pH level between 7.2 and 7.8. Ensure free chlorine is approximately 0.5 - 1.0 ppm. If the pool is green or cloudy, maintain chlorine at approximately 2.0 ppm until clear.
4. Place the Unit: Place the PoolRx unit in the skimmer basket (if there is good water flow) or the pump basket. The minerals will dissolve into the water within 3-4 hours.
5. Run the Pump: Run the pump for 6-8 hours. Keep the unit in the skimmer or pump basket to recharge the minerals as water flows through it.

Operating and Maintenance

General Pool Maintenance with PoolRx

PoolRx minerals will begin eliminating algae once completely dissolved in the water. The minerals typically turn a green pool into a clear pool within 24-72 hours if directions are followed correctly.

• Chlorine Levels: With PoolRx, only small amounts of chlorine are necessary (0.5 - 1.0 ppm). Do not let the pH go above 7.8, as it can make chlorine ineffective. If the pool is green or cloudy, maintain a chlorine level of 2.0 ppm until it clears.
• pH Levels: Maintain pH between 7.2 and 7.8 for effective chlorine performance.
• Weekly Maintenance: Continue normal pool chemistry ranges and maintain normal pump/filter run times, turning over the entire body of water at least 1.5 times per 24 hours.
• High CYA (Cyanuric Acid): Ideal range is 40-80 ppm. If CYA is above 100 ppm, dilute with liquid chlorine or cal hypo in a bucket of water before adding to the pool.
• No Phosphate Removers: PoolRx+ eliminates algae, making phosphate levels irrelevant.
• Less Pool Shocking: It's not necessary to shock the pool if the water is crystal clear with PoolRx and has a low chlorine residual.

Recommended Filter Settings (to optimize mineral flow)

Keeping the filter clean is critical for PoolRx products to work efficiently and help capture dead algae.

Sand Filter:

1. Backwash and rinse filter until it's clean.
2. Switch the gear from "Filter" to "Bypass / Re-Circulate".
3. Add the unit in the skimmer or pump basket.
4. Let the pool run for a full cycle of 12 hours.
5. Place the gear back to "Filter", after 12 hours of run cycle.

DE Filter:

1. Clean filter completely.
2. Add minimum required amount of DE. Do not overpack filter, so that minerals don't get caught in the filter.
3. Place the unit in the skimmer.
4. Run the pool for 6-12 hours or full run cycle.

Cartridge Filter:

1. Remove the cartridge from the filter housing and clean it.
2. Place the unit in the skimmer or pump basket.
3. Run the pool for 6-12 hours or full run cycle.
4. Place the cartridges back into the filter, after 6-12 hours or full run cycle.

Troubleshooting and FAQs

Common Questions:

What is the difference between PoolRx and PoolRx+ products?

Both formulas work great and are very similar. The PoolRx+ products have "silver" as an additional active ingredient to eliminate algae and bacteria when used with 0.5 to 1.0 ppm chlorine.

Should I be concerned about higher levels of copper before or after adding PoolRx?

Before installing PoolRx products, test for copper level. If the level is at 0.2 ppm or less, it's okay to install PoolRx. If the level is higher than 0.2 ppm, treat this elevated level first, retest, and then install when copper is at or below 0.2 ppm. After installing PoolRx, there is no reason to be alarmed about the copper level. This is perfectly normal due to a proprietary chelation process of the metal ingredients, which prevents them from staining.

Can I add other algaecides or specialty chemicals?

We do not recommend using any other algaecide, phosphate removers, or clarifiers with PoolRx products. If PoolRx products are used with correct dosage and functioning pool and chemistry, no additional chemicals are needed except low levels of chlorine and pH adjustments. Do not use with bromine or biguanides products.

What happens to the PoolRx minerals in the water?

PoolRx minerals are consumed during the process of algae kill and filtered out. The body of water through backwashing, splash-out, and filter cleaning also removes them. Minerals still circulating are recharged by the specially-treated alloy cylinder inside the PoolRx unit. This ion exchange prolongs the effectiveness of the circulating PoolRx minerals for up to 6 months.

How often should I add booster and replace the PoolRx unit?

We recommend adding minerals when needed, typically 4-6 months after installing a new unit. We recommend replacing the unit every 12 months.
