1. Introduction
The HY-C Type 2 UL1618 Stove Board is designed to provide non-combustible thermal and ember protection for floors and walls. It safeguards surfaces from the intense heat, hot coals, ashes, and soot that wood-burning appliances can produce. This manual provides essential information for the proper installation, use, and maintenance of your stove board.

3. Setup and Installation
The HY-C Stove Board can be installed in two primary configurations: as a floor protector beneath a wood-burning appliance or as a wall shield behind it. Always consult local building codes and appliance manufacturer's instructions for minimum clearance requirements.
3.1. Floor Protection
Place the stove board directly on the floor in front of or beneath your wood-burning stove or fireplace. Ensure the board extends beyond the appliance according to local regulations and appliance specifications to catch any falling embers or ash. The board should be placed on a flat, stable surface.

3.2. Wall Shield Installation
To use the stove board as a wall shield, it must be installed with an air gap between the board and the wall to allow for proper heat dissipation. The HY-C Wall Spacer Kit (Model #ULSK), sold separately, is recommended for this purpose. Follow the instructions provided with the Wall Spacer Kit for correct installation and ensure adequate clearance from the appliance.
3.3. Connecting Multiple Boards
For larger areas requiring protection, multiple stove boards can be connected using the HY-C Connector Kit (Model #ULCK), sold separately. Refer to the Connector Kit instructions for details on securely joining boards.

4. Operating Instructions (Usage)
Once properly installed, the HY-C Stove Board functions passively as a protective barrier. No active operation is required. Ensure that the stove board remains free of obstructions and is not covered by flammable materials. Regularly check the area around your wood-burning appliance to ensure the stove board is effectively performing its protective function.
5. Maintenance
To ensure the longevity and effectiveness of your HY-C Stove Board, follow these simple maintenance guidelines:
- Cleaning: Wipe the surface of the stove board with a damp cloth to remove dust, ash, or soot. Avoid abrasive cleaners or harsh chemicals that could damage the finish.
- Inspection: Periodically inspect the stove board for any signs of damage, such as dents, cracks, or warping. Ensure the fiber board backing is intact and not exposed.
- Placement: Verify that the stove board remains correctly positioned and has not shifted, especially if it is used as a floor protector under a heavy appliance.

6. Troubleshooting
If you encounter any issues with your stove board, consider the following:
- Damage: If the stove board shows significant damage (e.g., large cracks, exposed backing, severe warping), it may compromise its protective capabilities. Consider replacing the board.
- Inadequate Protection: Ensure the stove board is correctly sized and positioned according to appliance manufacturer guidelines and local codes. If embers or heat are still affecting surrounding surfaces, re-evaluate placement or consider additional protective measures.
