6. Maintenance

Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and performance of your DVD player.

  • Cleaning the Exterior: Wipe the unit with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Disc Care: Handle discs by their edges. Keep them clean and free of scratches. Store discs in their cases when not in use.
  • Optical Pickup Maintenance (Advanced): If you experience sound skipping, particularly with CD-R playback, it may be due to solidified grease on the optical pickup's steel rod rail. Carefully wipe off any residue with a cotton swab lightly soaked in a contact cleaner like CRC556. Additionally, apply a small amount of lithium grease (e.g., Tamiya's Mini 4WD ceramic grease) to the bearing part of the disc chuck/rotation shaft. This can significantly improve disc reading stability. (Note: This procedure should only be attempted by users comfortable with internal component access and handling. If unsure, consult a professional.)
