Setup and Installation

1. Preparing the Enclosure

The enclosure comes fully assembled. Before installing your woofers, ensure the internal wiring is properly connected to the terminal cups. The enclosure features two separate chambers, each with its own terminal cup.

2. Wiring the Woofers

Connect your 8-inch woofers to the internal wire leads. Ensure correct polarity: positive (+) from the woofer to the positive terminal, and negative (-) to the negative terminal. For a secure connection, it is recommended to use crimp-on ring terminals or spade connectors on your speaker wire, rather than simply wrapping bare wire around the posts. This prevents loose connections and potential short circuits.

3. Mounting the Woofers

Carefully place each 8-inch woofer into its respective opening. Align the mounting holes on the woofer frame with the pre-drilled holes on the enclosure. Use appropriate wood screws to secure the woofers. Exercise caution to avoid overtightening or damaging the woofer's surround.

4. Installing Speaker Grills (Optional)

If using speaker grills, position them over the mounted woofers. Secure the grills using the provided screws or suitable alternatives. Grills help protect the woofers from accidental damage, especially in vehicle trunks where items may shift.

5. Securing the Enclosure in Your Vehicle

To prevent the enclosure from sliding in your vehicle's trunk or cargo area, consider applying self-adhesive hook-and-loop fastener strips (Velcro) to the bottom of the enclosure. The hook side of the Velcro will grip the carpeted surface of your vehicle, providing stability.

Operation

Once the woofers are installed and the enclosure is secured, connect the external speaker wires from the enclosure's terminal cups to your car audio amplifier. Ensure correct polarity and impedance matching with your amplifier. This enclosure is designed to present a 2-ohm load when wired appropriately for dual 4-ohm single voice coil subwoofers.

Maintenance

To maintain the appearance and performance of your subwoofer enclosure:

  • Regularly clean the black aviation carpet with a soft brush or vacuum cleaner to remove dust and debris.
  • Avoid placing heavy or sharp objects directly on the woofers or the enclosure to prevent damage.
  • Ensure all connections remain tight and secure to prevent intermittent sound or damage to components.

Troubleshooting

If you experience issues with your subwoofer enclosure, consider the following:

  • No Sound or Intermittent Sound: Check all wiring connections, both internal to the enclosure and external to the amplifier. Ensure no wires are loose or shorting. Verify amplifier power and settings.
  • Distorted Sound: Check amplifier gain settings. Excessive gain can lead to distortion. Ensure woofers are securely mounted and not vibrating against the enclosure.
  • Enclosure Movement: If the enclosure slides during vehicle movement, reinforce the Velcro strips on the bottom or consider additional securing methods.
