Setup and Installation
Proper setup and installation are crucial for the security and longevity of your key safe.
1. Opening the Sentinel for the First Time
- Open the Front Cover from the top to reveal the Push Buttons and the Opening Lever.
- When purchased, no combination is set. Push down the Opening Lever to open the safe.
2. Setting a New Combination
The Sentinel Key Safe uses a push-button digit combination lock. A normal PIN number is four digits; however, more numbers or choosing a name (e.g., DAVIS which would be 32847) is recommended for enhanced security.
- Open the Sentinel door to reveal the setting mechanism.
- Remove the Setting Key.
- Choose a combination and write it down prior to setting the Sentinel.
- Using the Setting Key, turn the yellow dial of each chosen digit 180 degrees, so that the arrow is pointing away from you.
- Repeat this process for all Push Buttons in your desired combination.
- Test the combination prior to closing the lid. After setting, if you push the opening lever, it will appear to be locked.
- Enter your combination to test the function.
- Before re-entering the combination, pull the Clear Button to clear the number.
- Re-enter the combination and push the lever to close.
- Return the Setting Key to its original position for future use.

- Choose a discreet and secure location for mounting, away from direct view if possible.
- Open the key safe to access the mounting holes located on the back panel.
- Mark the drilling points on the wall using the key safe as a template.
- Drill pilot holes if necessary, according to the size of your chosen screws and anchors.

Maintenance
The Sentinel Key Safe is designed to be durable and weatherproof. Regular maintenance is minimal but recommended to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
- Cleaning: Periodically wipe the exterior with a soft, damp cloth to remove dirt and grime. Avoid abrasive cleaners or solvents that could damage the finish or coating.
- Lubrication: If the opening lever or shackle mechanism becomes stiff over time, apply a small amount of silicone-based lubricant to the moving parts. Avoid oil-based lubricants as they can attract dust.
- Weather Protection: Although weatherproof, ensure the front cover is always closed when not in use to protect the push-button mechanism from prolonged exposure to harsh weather conditions.
- Combination Security: Regularly review your combination. If you suspect it has been compromised, change it immediately following the "Setting a New Combination" instructions.
Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your Sentinel Key Safe, refer to the following common problems and solutions:
- Safe will not open after entering combination:
- Ensure you are pressing the correct buttons in the correct sequence.
- Verify that the "Clear Button" was pressed before entering the combination if you made a mistake.
- Confirm that the opening lever is fully depressed after entering the combination.
- If the combination was recently changed, double-check that the yellow dials were turned 180 degrees for each digit and the setting key was returned to its original position.
- Safe door is stiff or difficult to close:
- Check for any obstructions inside the key safe or around the door hinge.
- Apply a small amount of silicone lubricant to the hinge mechanism.
- Shackle is difficult to open or close:
