Goliath SEQUENCE Letters Educational Board Game Instruction Manual

Model: 8011 | Brand: Goliath

Introduction

The Goliath SEQUENCE Letters game offers a fun and engaging way for children aged 4-7 to learn the alphabet and develop early reading skills. Players match letters on cards to the beginning sounds of pictures on the game board, aiming to create a 'Sequence' of four chips in a row. This game combines strategic thinking with educational content, making it an ideal choice for family game nights and preschool learning.

  • Classic SEQUENCE fun from A to Z!
  • Players match the letter on a card to the beginning sound of a picture on the board and place a chip there - the first with 5 in a row wins!
  • Each card features a letter of the alphabet in upper and lower case.
  • Colored squares on the cards and board help with faster recognition.
  • Targets kids ages 4-7, for 2-4 players.

What's in the Box

Your Goliath SEQUENCE Letters game package includes the following components:

  • Folding Game Board
  • Cards
  • Playing Chips
  • Complete Instructions

Setup

  1. Unfold the Game Board: Place the folding game board on a flat, stable surface.
  2. Distribute Chips: Each player chooses a color of playing chips. The game is designed for 2-4 players.
  3. Shuffle and Deal Cards: Shuffle the deck of letter cards thoroughly. Deal an equal number of cards to each player (e.g., 5 cards for 2-3 players, 4 cards for 4 players). Place the remaining cards face down to form a draw pile.
  4. Identify Free Spaces: Note the 'Free Space' corners on the board, which can be used as part of any sequence.

Operating (How to Play)

  1. Objective: The goal is to be the first player to get a 'Sequence' of four of your colored chips in a row, either horizontally, vertically, or diagonally.
  2. Player's Turn: On your turn, select one letter card from your hand.
  3. Match and Place: Find a picture on the game board that starts with the sound of the letter on your chosen card. Place one of your colored chips on that picture. Each letter has two corresponding pictures on the board.
  4. Draw a New Card: After placing your chip, draw a new card from the draw pile to maintain your hand size.
  5. Special Cards:
    • Wild Cards (Z cards): These cards allow you to place your chip on any open space on the board.
    • Remove Cards (X cards): These cards allow you to remove an opponent's chip from any space on the board, blocking their sequence.
  6. Winning: The first player to achieve a sequence of four chips in a row wins the game!

Maintenance

To ensure the longevity of your SEQUENCE Letters game, follow these simple maintenance tips:

  • Storage: Store all game components (board, cards, and chips) in their original box in a dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • Cleaning: Wipe the game board and plastic chips with a soft, dry cloth as needed. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.
  • Card Care: Handle cards with clean, dry hands to prevent bending or tearing.

Troubleshooting

  • Ambiguous Pictures: Some pictures on the board might have multiple possible starting sounds (e.g., a picture could be interpreted as 'apple' or 'apricot'). In such cases, players can agree on a consistent interpretation before starting the game, or allow for flexibility as long as the chosen letter sound is reasonable.
  • Missing Pieces: If any game components are missing or damaged upon opening, please contact customer support for assistance.
  • Game Flow Issues: If players are struggling with the rules, refer to the 'Operating' section or consider simplifying the game by focusing solely on letter recognition without the strategic elements of blocking or wild cards for younger players.
