5. Setup

The BLACK+DECKER ASI500-QS is powered by a 12-volt DC source, typically a vehicle's accessory outlet (cigarette lighter socket). It does not operate directly from 230V AC mains; a separate charger (not included with all models, but implied by some specifications) would be used to charge an internal battery if present, or to power a 12V DC adapter. For this model, direct 12V DC connection is the primary power source.

  1. Power Connection: Retrieve the 12-volt DC power cable from its storage compartment. Plug the 12V adapter firmly into your vehicle's accessory outlet.
  2. Hose Selection: Determine whether you need the high-pressure hose (for tires, balls) or the high-volume hose (for air mattresses, inflatables).
  3. Accessory Attachment: If required, select the appropriate adapter (e.g., needle for sports balls, cone adapter for inflatables) and attach it securely to the chosen hose.

6. Operating Instructions

6.1. High-Pressure Inflation (Tires, Sports Balls)

  1. Connect the high-pressure hose to the high-pressure outlet on the unit.
  2. Attach the appropriate adapter (if needed) to the hose. For vehicle tires, the standard Schrader valve connector is usually integrated.
  3. Securely attach the hose connector to the item to be inflated.
  4. Press the power button to turn on the unit. The digital display will show the current pressure.
  5. Use the pressure unit button to select your desired unit (PSI, Bar, kPa).
  6. Use the '+' and '-' buttons to set the target pressure. Refer to the item's manufacturer recommendations for correct pressure.
  7. Press the inflation button (often the same as the power button, or a dedicated start button) to begin inflation. The unit will automatically stop when the target pressure is reached.
  8. Once inflation is complete, disconnect the hose from the item and turn off the unit.

6.2. High-Volume Inflation/Deflation (Air Mattresses, Inflatables)

  1. Connect the high-volume hose to the high-volume outlet for inflation, or the high-volume inlet for deflation.
  2. Attach the appropriate cone adapter to the hose.
  3. Insert the adapter firmly into the valve of the item to be inflated or deflated.
  4. Press the power button to turn on the unit.
  5. Press the high-volume inflation/deflation button (refer to unit markings) to start the process. Note that high-volume functions typically do not use pressure settings and will run continuously until manually stopped.
  6. Monitor the item during inflation/deflation to prevent over-inflation or damage.
  7. Once complete, turn off the unit and disconnect the hose.

6.3. Digital Pressure Setting and Automatic Shut-off

The ASI500-QS features a digital display for precise pressure control. When using the high-pressure function, you can set a desired pressure, and the unit will automatically stop once that pressure is reached. This prevents over-inflation and ensures accuracy.

  • After connecting the hose and powering on, the display shows the current pressure.
  • Use the '+' and '-' buttons to adjust the target pressure value.
  • Start inflation. The unit will inflate until the set pressure is achieved, then automatically power off the compressor.

7. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Wipe the unit with a damp cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners. Ensure no water enters the vents or electrical components.
  • Storage: Store the inflator/compressor in a dry, cool place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Ensure all hoses and accessories are neatly stored in their designated compartments.
  • Cord Inspection: Regularly inspect the power cord and hoses for any signs of damage, cuts, or fraying. Do not use the unit if any part is damaged.

8. Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Unit does not turn on.No power from 12V outlet; faulty connection; unit malfunction.Check 12V power source and connection. Ensure vehicle ignition is on if required. Try a different 12V outlet.
Inflation is slow or weak.Hose leak; incorrect hose/adapter for task; low vehicle battery.Check hose connections for leaks. Ensure correct hose (high-pressure vs. high-volume) is used. Ensure vehicle battery is adequately charged.
Unit does not stop at set pressure.Pressure sensor malfunction; hose leak.Ensure hose is securely attached and no leaks are present. If problem persists, contact customer support.
Excessive noise or vibration.Unit not on a stable surface; internal issue.Place the unit on a flat, stable surface. If noise persists and is unusual, discontinue use and contact support.
