2. Important Safeguards

When using electrical appliances, basic safety precautions should always be followed, including the following:

  • Read all instructions before use.
  • Do not touch hot surfaces. Use handles or knobs.
  • To protect against electrical shock, do not immerse the cord, plugs, or the main heating unit in water or other liquid.
  • Close supervision is necessary when any appliance is used by or near children.
  • Unplug from the outlet when not in use and before cleaning. Allow to cool before putting on or taking off parts.
  • Do not operate any appliance with a damaged cord or plug, or after the appliance malfunctions or has been damaged in any manner. Contact customer service for assistance.
  • The use of accessory attachments not recommended by the appliance manufacturer may cause injuries.
  • Do not use outdoors.
  • Do not let the power cord hang over the edge of a table or counter, or touch hot surfaces.
  • Do not place on or near a hot gas or electric burner, or in a heated oven.
  • Extreme caution must be used when moving an appliance containing hot oil or other hot liquids.
  • Always attach the plug to the appliance first, then plug the cord into the wall outlet. To disconnect, turn any control to "off", then remove the plug from the wall outlet.
  • Do not use the appliance for other than its intended use.
  • This appliance has a polarized plug (one blade is wider than the other). To reduce the risk of electric shock, this plug is intended to fit into a polarized outlet only one way. 5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Cooking Rice

  1. Measure the desired amount of rice using the provided measuring cup. One cup of uncooked rice typically yields about two cups of cooked rice.
  2. Rinse the rice under cold water in a separate bowl until the water runs clear, if desired.
  3. Place the rinsed rice into the non-stick inner pot.
  4. Add the appropriate amount of water. A common ratio is 1 cup of uncooked rice to 1.5-2 cups of water, or follow the water level markings inside the inner pot.
  5. Place the inner pot into the main unit, ensuring it is seated correctly.
  6. Cover the inner pot with the glass lid. Ensure the lid is securely in place.
  7. Plug the power cord into a standard 120V AC electrical outlet.
  8. Press the control switch down to the "Cook" position. The "Cook" indicator light will illuminate.
  9. The rice cooker will automatically switch to the "Warm" mode once the rice is cooked. The "Cook" light will turn off, and the "Warm" light will illuminate.
  10. For best results, allow the rice to rest in the "Warm" mode for 5-10 minutes after cooking is complete. This allows the rice to absorb any remaining moisture and become fluffier.
  11. Unplug the rice cooker from the outlet after serving.

5.2 Steaming Food

The included steamer basket allows you to steam vegetables, fish, or other foods while your rice cooks or independently.

  1. Add approximately 1-2 cups of water to the non-stick inner pot. Ensure the water level is below the bottom of the steamer basket.
  2. Place the food to be steamed into the steamer basket.
  3. Place the steamer basket on top of the inner pot.
  4. Cover with the glass lid.
  5. Plug in the power cord and press the control switch down to the "Cook" position.
  6. Monitor the steaming process. Steaming times vary depending on the type and quantity of food.
  7. Once steaming is complete, carefully remove the lid (beware of hot steam) and remove the steamed food.
  8. Switch the control to "Warm" or unplug the unit.

5.3 Keep Warm Function

The rice cooker automatically switches to the "Warm" function after cooking is complete. This function keeps the rice at an optimal serving temperature without overcooking. Do not keep rice on "Warm" for extended periods (e.g., more than 12 hours) as it may affect texture and flavor.

6. Care and Maintenance

Proper care and maintenance will ensure the longevity of your Brentwood Rice Cooker.

  • Always unplug the rice cooker from the electrical outlet and allow it to cool completely before cleaning.
  • Inner Pot: Hand wash the non-stick inner pot with warm soapy water and a soft sponge. Do not use abrasive cleaners, metal scouring pads, or sharp utensils, as these can damage the non-stick coating.
  • Steamer Basket, Lid, Measuring Cup, and Spatula: These accessories can be washed in warm soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and dry.
  • Main Unit: Wipe the exterior of the main unit with a damp cloth. Never immerse the main unit, power cord, or plug in water or any other liquid.
  • Ensure all parts are completely dry before storing the appliance.
