The DSC-H55 is equipped with a 14.1-megapixel Super HAD CCD image sensor for high-quality images. Simply point the camera at your subject and press the shutter button to capture a photo.

2. Zoom Function

Utilize the 10x optical zoom Sony G-Lens to bring distant subjects closer. The lens provides a 25mm-equivalent wide angle for capturing broader scenes. Use the zoom lever (W/T) to adjust the focal length.

3. Flash Modes

The built-in flash can be set to various modes: Auto, On, Off, and Slow Sync. Adjust the flash mode via the camera's menu or dedicated button to suit lighting conditions.

4. Scene Modes

The camera offers 11 convenient scene modes to optimize settings for specific shooting conditions:

  • High Sensitivity
  • Twilight
  • Twilight Portrait
  • Soft Snap
  • Landscape
  • Beach
  • Snow
  • Fireworks
  • Advanced Sports
  • Gourmet
  • Pet

5. Intelligent Auto (iAuto) Mode

In iAuto mode, the camera automatically detects scenes, lighting conditions, and faces, adjusting settings for clearer images, natural skin tones, and reduced blur. This mode integrates Intelligent Scene Recognition, Face Detection, and Optical SteadyShot.

6. Sweep Panorama Mode

To capture panoramic shots, press the shutter button and sweep the camera horizontally or vertically. The camera continuously shoots at high speed and stitches images together with automatic position adjustment. Available in wide and ultra-wide options, capturing up to 243 degrees.

7. Video Recording (720p HD MP4)

Record high-definition videos in 720p MP4 format. The MP4 format compresses video size for easy transfer to compatible PCs or Macs and is suitable for web uploads. Optical SteadyShot image stabilization with Active Mode helps maintain stable footage even while walking or running.

8. Image Stabilization (Optical SteadyShot)

Optical SteadyShot image stabilization uses a built-in gyro sensor to detect and compensate for camera shake, preventing blur without sacrificing image quality.

9. Face Detection & Smile Shutter

Sony's Face Detection technology identifies up to eight faces, distinguishing between children and adults, and adjusts flash, focus, exposure, and white balance. Smile Shutter technology automatically captures a photo when a smile is detected, with adjustable sensitivity and child/adult priority.

10. Self-Portrait Timer

This feature uses Face Detection to recognize when your face enters the frame, triggering a 2-second timer before taking a picture.

11. High Sensitivity Mode (ISO)

High ISO settings (up to 3200) allow for faster shutter speeds, enabling photography in low light without flash. Available ISO settings include Auto, 80, 100, 200, 400, 800, 1600, and 3200.

12. Dynamic Range Optimizer (DRO)

DRO Standard and Plus modes recover shadows and highlights for more natural images with clearer details, especially effective in high-contrast scenes.

13. Intelligent AF

Intelligent AF technology provides quick autofocus, locking focus in as little as 0.3 seconds.

14. Easy Shooting Mode

For beginners, Easy Shooting Mode displays basic instructions on the LCD and switches to automatic settings, simplifying operation.

15. Function Guide

This optional function displays descriptions of chosen functions or settings on the LCD screen to assist users.

16. PHOTOMUSIC

Combine images with music (4 tracks, 5 minutes per track) to create slideshows with visual effects. Pre-loaded tracks are available, or you can transfer your own.

17. Viewing Modes

Organize and find your photos using simple folder or calendar viewing modes.

18. In-Camera Retouching Tools

Retouch and enhance photos directly on the camera with Trimming, Red-Eye Correction, and Unsharp Masking functions.

19. PhotoTV HD

Enjoy highly detailed, high-definition images on PhotoTV HD-capable Sony BRAVIA HDTVs. PhotoTV HD fine-tunes display settings for images that resemble printed photos.

Maintenance

1. Cleaning

  • Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the camera body.
  • For the lens, use a lens brush or blower to remove dust, then gently wipe with a lens cleaning cloth.
  • Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.

2. Battery Care

  • Charge the battery fully before first use and after extended periods of non-use.
  • Store batteries in a cool, dry place.
  • Avoid exposing batteries to extreme temperatures.

3. Storage

  • Store the camera in a dry, dust-free environment.
  • Remove the battery if the camera will not be used for an extended period.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your camera, try the following basic troubleshooting steps:

  • Camera does not power on: Ensure the battery is fully charged and correctly inserted.
  • Blurry images: Check if Optical SteadyShot is enabled. Ensure sufficient lighting or use a higher ISO setting. Hold the camera steady or use a tripod.
  • Flash issues: Verify the flash mode is set appropriately for the lighting conditions.
  • Memory card error: Reinsert the memory card. Ensure it is compatible and not full. Try formatting the card (this will erase all data).
  • Red-eye in photos: Use the in-camera Red-Eye Correction tool or select a flash mode designed to reduce red-eye.
