The La Pavoni Pub 1V-B is a 1-group volumetric espresso machine designed for consistent performance, featuring a digital control pad and microprocessor for precise dosing. It incorporates thermal stability for consistent brewing temperatures and a pre-infusion system for balanced espresso shots.
Setup
1. Unpacking and Placement
Carefully remove the espresso machine from its packaging. Ensure all packing materials are removed. Place the machine on a stable, level surface capable of supporting its weight (Net 88lb / Gross 110lb). Allow adequate space around the machine for ventilation and access for operation and maintenance.

2. Water Connection
The machine requires a direct water connection. Use the provided installation kit (fittings and hoses) to connect the machine to a potable water supply. It is recommended to install the included 8-liter water softener to protect the machine from scale buildup and ensure optimal water quality for espresso extraction. Ensure all connections are secure and leak-free.
3. Power Connection
Connect the power cord to a grounded 120V / 60Hz / 13Amp electrical outlet. Ensure the electrical supply meets the machine's requirements to prevent damage or malfunction.
Operating Instructions
1. Initial Start-up
- Ensure the water supply is open and the machine is connected to power.
- Turn on the main power switch. The boiler will begin to fill and heat. Monitor the boiler pressure gauge.
- Once the machine reaches operating temperature and pressure, purge the group head by running a small amount of water through it without a portafilter.
2. Programming Dosing
The digital control pad allows for programmable dosing for four cup sizes, continuous brewing, and a stop button. Refer to the specific programming instructions provided with your machine for detailed steps on setting desired volumetric doses for single and double shots.

3. Making Espresso
- Insert the desired coffee basket into the portafilter.
- Grind fresh coffee beans and fill the basket, tamping evenly.
- Attach the portafilter securely to the group head.
- Place your cup(s) under the portafilter spouts.
- Select the desired programmed dose button on the digital control pad. The machine will automatically dispense the programmed volume of espresso. Use the stop button for manual control if needed.
4. Using the Steam Wand
The machine is equipped with one steam wand for frothing milk. Open the steam valve slowly to release steam into a pitcher of cold milk. Close the valve when finished.
5. Hot Water Dispensing
To dispense hot water, turn the hot water tap knob. Close the knob to stop the flow.
Maintenance
1. Daily Cleaning
- Group Head: Backflush the group head daily using a blind filter and espresso machine cleaner.
- Portafilters and Baskets: Clean portafilters and coffee baskets thoroughly after each use to remove coffee residue.
- Steam Wand: Purge and wipe the steam wand immediately after each use to prevent milk buildup.
- Drip Tray: Empty and clean the drip tray regularly.
- Exterior: Wipe down the exterior of the machine with a damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners.
2. Descaling
Regular descaling is crucial, especially if the water softener is not maintained or if hard water is used. Follow the descaling instructions provided with your descaling solution. Frequency depends on water hardness and usage.
3. Water Softener Maintenance
The included 8-liter water softener requires periodic regeneration or replacement. Refer to the water softener's specific instructions for maintenance to ensure its effectiveness in preventing scale buildup in the machine's boiler and pipes.
Troubleshooting
- No Power: Check power cord connection, wall outlet, and circuit breaker.
- No Water Flow: Ensure water supply is open, check for kinks in hoses, and verify water softener is functioning correctly.
- Weak Espresso/No Crema: Check coffee grind size, tamping pressure, and ensure machine is at operating temperature.
- Steam Wand Not Producing Steam: Ensure boiler pressure is adequate and the steam wand is not clogged.
