4.3 Electrical Connections
IMPORTANT: All electrical wiring must be performed by a qualified electrician and conform to all national and local electrical codes.
- Ensure power is disconnected at the circuit breaker before making any connections.
- Connect the float switch wires to the designated terminals within the alarm unit. Refer to the wiring diagram inside the alarm unit's cover for specific connections.
- Connect the alarm unit to a dedicated 120 Volt power supply. It is recommended that the alarm unit and the pump it monitors are on separate circuits to ensure the alarm functions even if the pump's circuit blows.
- Secure all wiring connections and ensure no bare wires are exposed.
5. Operating Instructions
5.1 Alarm Activation
The alarm system is designed to activate when the water level rises and lifts the float switch to its activation point. Upon activation:
- The red warning light on top of the alarm unit will illuminate.
- The audible horn will sound at 82 decibels.
5.2 Silencing the Alarm
To silence the audible horn after an alarm event:
- Locate the 'SILENCE' switch on the front of the alarm unit.
- Toggle the switch to the 'SILENCE' position. The horn will stop, but the red warning light will remain illuminated until the water level drops and the float switch deactivates.
- The alarm system features an auto-reset function. Once the water level returns to normal and the float switch drops, the system will automatically reset, and the red warning light will turn off.
5.3 Testing the Alarm
Regular testing of the alarm system is recommended to ensure proper functionality:
- Locate the 'TEST' switch on the front of the alarm unit.
- Toggle the switch to the 'TEST' position. The red warning light should illuminate, and the horn should sound.
- Return the switch to its normal operating position after testing.
6. Maintenance
The Zoeller A-Pak alarm system requires minimal maintenance. Regular checks ensure continued reliable operation:
- Monthly Test: Perform the alarm test as described in Section 5.3 to confirm the horn and light are functioning.
- Float Switch Inspection: Periodically inspect the float switch and its cable for any signs of damage, wear, or obstruction. Ensure it moves freely.
- Cleanliness: Keep the alarm unit free from dust, dirt, and debris. Use a soft, dry cloth for cleaning. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
- Wiring Check: Annually, or if any issues arise, visually inspect all wiring connections for tightness and integrity. Ensure no corrosion or damage is present.
7. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Alarm does not sound or light up during test. | No power to the unit. Faulty wiring connection. Damaged alarm unit. | Check circuit breaker and power supply. Verify all electrical connections are secure (ensure power is off first). Contact customer support for replacement if unit is damaged. |
| Alarm sounds continuously. | Float switch stuck in 'up' position. Actual high water condition. Faulty float switch. | Check float switch for obstructions and ensure free movement. Investigate and resolve the high water condition. Test float switch; replace if faulty. |
| Alarm does not silence. | Silence switch malfunction. Water level still high. | Ensure the silence switch is fully engaged. The light will remain on until the water level drops and the float switch resets. Address the high water condition. |
| Alarm activates at incorrect water level. | Float switch positioned incorrectly. Float switch cable length incorrect. | Adjust the mounting position of the float switch to the desired activation level. Ensure the float switch cable is secured at the correct height. |
