Intellitouch PT10c Mini Clip-On Tuner User Manual

Model: PT10C

Introduction

The Intellitouch PT10c Mini Clip-On Tuner is a compact, automatic chromatic tuner designed for a wide range of stringed instruments. It utilizes vibration sensing technology to provide accurate tuning in various environments, ignoring background noise. Its backlit display ensures clear readability, indicating when your instrument is in tune.

This manual provides instructions for the proper setup, operation, and maintenance of your PT10c tuner.

Setup

1. Battery Installation

The PT10c tuner requires one CR2032 Lithium Metal battery (included). To install or replace the battery:

  1. Locate the battery compartment on the back of the tuner.
  2. Open the compartment cover.
  3. Insert the CR2032 battery with the positive (+) side facing up.
  4. Close the battery compartment cover securely.

2. Attaching the Tuner to Your Instrument

The PT10c uses a clip-on design to attach to the headstock of your instrument. This allows the tuner to detect vibrations directly from the instrument for accurate tuning.

  • Gently open the clip and attach it firmly to the headstock of your guitar, bass, violin, banjo, mandolin, or other stringed instrument.
  • Ensure the tuner is securely fastened but not overly tight to avoid damage to the instrument finish.
  • Adjust the display angle for optimal viewing. The tuner features a ball pivot for flexibility in positioning.

Operating Instructions

1. Tuning Your Instrument

The PT10c is a chromatic tuner, meaning it can detect all 12 notes of the chromatic scale. It automatically identifies the note being played.

  1. Ensure the tuner is powered on and securely clipped to your instrument's headstock.
  2. Pluck a single string on your instrument.
  3. Observe the tuner's display:
    • The display will show the detected note (e.g., E, A, D, G, B).
    • A needle or indicator will show if the note is sharp (too high), flat (too low), or in tune.
    • The backlight color will change:
      • Red: Indicates the note is out of tune (either sharp or flat).
      • Green: Indicates the note is in tune.
  4. Adjust your instrument's tuning peg until the display shows the correct note, the needle is centered, and the backlight turns green.
  5. Repeat for all strings.

2. A-Ref Button (Calibration)

The A-Ref button allows you to adjust the reference pitch (A4). The standard reference pitch is 440Hz. If you need to tune to a different reference pitch, consult your musical director or ensemble leader. Press the A-Ref button to cycle through available reference frequencies.

Maintenance

1. Battery Replacement

When the display becomes dim or the tuner's response slows, it is likely time to replace the CR2032 battery. Follow the steps outlined in the "Battery Installation" section under Setup.

2. Cleaning

To clean the tuner, wipe it with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents, as these can damage the display or casing.

3. Storage

Store the tuner in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. If storing for an extended period, it is recommended to remove the battery to prevent leakage.

Troubleshooting

  • Tuner does not power on:

Check if the battery is correctly installed with the positive (+) side up. Replace the CR2032 battery if it is depleted.

  • Display is dim or difficult to read:

This often indicates a low battery. Replace the CR2032 battery. Ensure the display is clean and free from smudges.

  • Inaccurate or inconsistent readings:
    • Ensure the tuner is securely clipped to the instrument's headstock. A loose connection can affect vibration detection.
    • Pluck strings cleanly and individually. Avoid strumming multiple strings simultaneously.
    • Verify the A-Ref setting is appropriate for your tuning needs (standard is 440Hz).
    • If the issue persists, try replacing the battery.
  • Tuner display is upside down or difficult to position:

Experiment with different clipping positions on the headstock and utilize the tuner's ball pivot to find an optimal viewing angle. Some instruments may require specific placement for best visibility.
