1. Battery Installation

The OM SYSTEM OLYMPUS FE-46 uses two AA alkaline batteries.

1. Open the battery compartment cover located on the bottom of the camera.
2. Insert two AA alkaline batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-) as indicated inside the compartment.
3. Close the battery compartment cover securely until it clicks into place.

Note: For optimal performance, use fresh alkaline batteries. Rechargeable NiMH batteries can also be used.

2. Memory Card Insertion

The camera supports both xD-Picture Card and microSD memory cards (not included). A microSD adapter (MASD-1) is included for microSD card use.

1. Locate the memory card slot, usually near the battery compartment.
2. Insert the memory card (or microSD card with MASD-1 adapter) into the slot until it clicks. Ensure the card is oriented correctly.
3. To remove, gently push the card in until it springs out.

Caution: Do not force the memory card. Incorrect insertion can damage the card or camera.

3. Initial Power On and Date/Time Setting

After inserting batteries and a memory card:

1. Press the ON/OFF button located on the top of the camera.
2. The LCD screen will power on. If this is the first use, you will be prompted to set the date and time.
3. Use the directional buttons to navigate and the OK/FUNC button to confirm settings.
4. Set the correct date, time, and time zone.

1. Taking Basic Photos

1. Turn on the camera by pressing the ON/OFF button.
2. Frame your shot using the LCD screen.
3. Press the shutter button halfway down to focus. The camera will emit a beep and the focus indicator will light up when focus is achieved.
4. Press the shutter button fully down to capture the image.

2. Zoom Function

The camera features a 5x optical zoom.

• To zoom in, push the T (Telephoto) side of the zoom lever.
• To zoom out, push the W (Wide-angle) side of the zoom lever.

3. Shooting Modes

The FE-46 offers various shooting modes to optimize your photos for different scenes. Access these modes via the MENU button and navigate to the shooting mode options.

• Intelligent Auto Mode: Automatically identifies the scene (Portrait, Landscape, Night + Portrait, Macro, Sports) and adjusts settings for optimal results.
• Program Auto Mode: Allows manual adjustment of ISO and white balance settings while the camera sets aperture and shutter speed.
• SCN (Scene) Modes: Pre-set modes for specific situations like fireworks, portraits, or action shots.

4. Magic Filters

Enhance your images with in-camera creative filters.

• Pop Art: Intensifies colors for a vibrant, high-impact effect.
• Pin Hole: Reduces peripheral brightness, drawing focus to the center of the image.
• Wedding: Applies soft, pastel colors and a gentle focus for an elegant look.

5. Advanced Features

• AF Tracking: Locks focus on a moving subject and continuously adjusts focus and brightness. Includes a dedicated "Pet Mode."
• Face Detection: Detects up to 16 faces in a frame, optimizing focus and exposure for sharp portraits.
• Shadow Adjustment Technology: Automatically adjusts for extreme light variations in scenes with both highlights and shadows to maintain detail.

6. In-Camera Editing

The FE-46 allows basic image editing directly on the camera. Access these functions in playback mode via the MENU.

• Red-Eye Fix: Corrects red-eye caused by flash.
• Lighting Fix: Adjusts brightness and contrast.
• Resizing and Cropping: Modify image dimensions and composition.
