- Installation Instructions (this manual)
Setup and Installation
The Door Scope DS1000 is designed for easy installation on doors with a thickness ranging from 1 1/8 inches to 2 inches. It is also suitable for use in fire-rated doors up to a 20-minute label.
Tools Required:
- Drill
- Appropriate drill bit (refer to product packaging for exact size, typically 1/2 inch to 5/8 inch)
- Measuring tape or ruler
- Pencil
Installation Steps:
- Determine Placement: Choose a suitable height on your door for the viewer. A common height is eye-level for an average adult, but consider the primary users of the viewer. Mark the center point with a pencil.
- Drill Hole: Carefully drill a hole through the door at the marked center point. Ensure the drill bit is perpendicular to the door surface to create a straight hole.
- Insert Front Section: Insert the front section of the door viewer (the part with the wider lens) into the drilled hole from the exterior side of the door.
- Attach Rear Section: From the interior side of the door, screw the rear section of the door viewer onto the front section. Turn clockwise until it is hand-tight. Do not overtighten.
- Adjust and Secure: Ensure the viewer is snug against both sides of the door. The pressure-sealed prism set helps prevent moisture and dust permeation.

Operating Instructions
Using your Door Scope DS1000 is straightforward:
- Viewing: Position your eye approximately 7 feet from the interior lens to view the outside area. The wide-angle lens provides a broad perspective.
- Image Orientation: Note that the actual image viewed through the scope is designed to be reversed. This is a characteristic of the optical system.
- Night Vision: The DS1000 incorporates an SCR-Filter, enabling you to obtain a clear image even in minimum light conditions at night.
- Privacy: The Image Dispersion System is designed to completely block peeping from the outside, ensuring your privacy.
Maintenance
The Door Scope DS1000 is designed for durability and requires minimal maintenance.
- Cleaning: To clean the lenses, gently wipe with a soft, lint-free cloth. For stubborn smudges, a small amount of lens cleaning solution can be applied to the cloth, not directly to the lens.
- Avoid Harsh Chemicals: Do not use abrasive cleaners, solvents, or harsh chemicals, as these can damage the lens coatings or the ABS plastic body.
- Inspection: Periodically check that the viewer remains securely tightened in the door.
Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your Door Scope DS1000, consider the following:
- Blurry Image: Ensure the lenses are clean and free from smudges or dust. Verify that the viewer is installed correctly and fully tightened.
- Limited Field of View: Confirm that the viewer is installed at an appropriate height and that there are no obstructions on either side of the door.
- Difficulty Seeing at Night: While the viewer has an SCR-Filter for low light, extremely dark conditions may still limit visibility. Ensure there is some ambient light or consider external lighting solutions.
- Image Appears Reversed: This is a normal characteristic of the DS1000's optical design. The image is intentionally reversed to provide the wide-angle view and privacy features.
