Setup and Installation

  1. Power Off: Ensure the power supply to the fixture is completely turned off at the circuit breaker before beginning installation.
  2. Fixture Compatibility: Verify that your lighting fixture is designed for 150W metal halide lamps and has an appropriate ballast. The fixture must also be enclosed to protect the bulb.
  3. Inspect Bulb: Carefully remove the new bulb from its packaging. Inspect the bulb for any signs of damage, such as cracks or scratches on the glass envelope. Do not install a damaged bulb.
  4. Install Bulb: Gently screw the bulb into the E26 medium base socket of the fixture. Do not overtighten. Ensure a snug fit to establish proper electrical contact.
  5. Secure Fixture: Close and secure the fixture's enclosure.
  6. Restore Power: Once the bulb is securely installed and the fixture is closed, restore power at the circuit breaker.

Note: Metal halide bulbs require a warm-up period to reach full brightness and color stability. This can take several minutes.

Operating Instructions

Once installed, the Philips MHC150/U/MP/3K bulb operates automatically when power is supplied to the fixture.

  • Initial Ignition: Upon turning on the power, the bulb will ignite and begin its warm-up cycle. The light output and color will stabilize over several minutes.
  • Re-ignition: If the bulb is turned off, it requires a cool-down period before it can be re-ignited. Attempting to re-ignite a hot bulb immediately may prevent it from striking or reduce its lifespan. Allow 5-15 minutes for the bulb to cool before attempting to turn it back on.
  • Operating Position: This bulb is designed for universal burn position, meaning it can operate in any orientation.

Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Ensure the power is off and the bulb is cool before cleaning. Gently wipe the outer glass envelope with a clean, dry, lint-free cloth. Do not use liquid cleaners or abrasive materials.
  • Replacement: Replace the bulb when it reaches the end of its rated life (approximately 16,000 hours) or if it exhibits signs of failure such as flickering, dimming, or failure to ignite.
  • Disposal: Metal halide bulbs contain small amounts of mercury. Dispose of spent bulbs according to local, state, and federal regulations. Many communities have recycling programs for mercury-containing lamps.
