3. Setup

3.1 Charging the Battery

  1. Insert the rechargeable battery (NP-BK1) into the battery charger (BC-CSK / BC-CSKA).
  2. Plug the battery charger into a wall outlet. The charging indicator light will illuminate.
  3. Once charging is complete, the indicator light will turn off. Remove the battery from the charger.

3.2 Inserting the Battery and Memory Card

  1. Open the battery/memory card cover on the bottom of the camera.
  2. Insert the charged battery into the battery compartment with the correct orientation, ensuring it clicks into place.
  3. Insert a compatible SD memory card into the memory card slot until it clicks. Ensure the card is oriented correctly.
  4. Close the battery/memory card cover securely.

3.3 Attaching the Wrist Strap

Thread the included wrist strap through the strap eyelet on the camera body to prevent accidental drops.

4. Operating the Camera

4.1 Powering On/Off

Press the ON/OFF button located on the top of the camera to turn it on or off. The lens will extend when powered on.

4.2 Basic Photography

  1. Turn on the camera.
  2. Frame your shot using the 2.7-inch LCD screen.
  3. Press the shutter button halfway down to focus. The camera will beep, and the focus indicator will appear.
  4. Press the shutter button fully down to take the picture.

4.3 Zoom Function

Use the zoom lever (W/T) located on the top-right of the camera's back to adjust the optical zoom. Push towards T for telephoto (zoom in) and towards W for wide-angle (zoom out).

This feature automatically detects smiles and captures a photo. To activate:

  1. Press the MENU button.
  2. Navigate to the Smile Shutter option and select it.

  • High Sensitivity: For shooting in very low light without flash.
  • Twilight: For capturing night scenes with natural ambient light.
  • Twilight Portrait: For portraits in low light, balancing subject and background exposure.
  • Landscape: For wide outdoor scenes, ensuring sharp focus from foreground to background.
  • Soft Snap: For portraits with a softer, more flattering skin tone.
  • Snow: Prevents underexposure and captures bright, clear images in snowy conditions.
  • Beach: Prevents underexposure and captures clear images in bright, sunny beach conditions.

4.8 High Sensitivity Mode (ISO 3200)

This mode increases the camera's sensitivity to light, allowing for faster shutter speeds in dim environments, reducing the need for flash and minimizing blur. You can select various ISO settings (Auto, 100, 200, 400, 800, 1600, 3200) in Program Auto Mode.

4.9 Function Guide

The Function Guide provides on-screen descriptions of selected functions and settings, assisting beginners in navigating the camera's features. This optional function can be enabled or disabled in the camera's menu.

4.10 In-Camera Retouching Tools

  • Ensure the memory card is inserted correctly.
  • Try formatting the memory card (note: this will erase all data).
  • Try a different compatible memory card.

6.5 Slow Autofocus

  • Ensure there is sufficient light on the subject.
  • Avoid shooting subjects with very low contrast or complex patterns.
