4. Setup

4.1 Speaker Placement

Proper speaker placement is crucial for optimal sound quality in a surround sound system. For the D-11XM speakers, consider the following:

  • Surround Channels: Position the D-11XM speakers to the sides or slightly behind your main listening position, typically at ear level.
  • Distance: Aim for an equidistant setup from the listening position for a balanced sound field.
  • Mounting Options: The D-11XM speakers are suitable for bookshelf placement. They also feature a wall-mount hole on the rear and two screw holes (5mm diameter, 12mm depth, 60mm pitch) on the bottom for attachment to speaker stands or brackets. Ensure any mounting hardware used is appropriate for the speaker's weight (approx. 1 kg per speaker) and securely installed.

4.2 Connecting to an Amplifier/Receiver

To connect your D-11XM speakers to your amplifier or AV receiver:

  1. Ensure your amplifier/receiver is turned off and unplugged from the power outlet.
  2. Prepare your speaker cables by stripping approximately 10-15mm of insulation from the ends. Twist the bare wires tightly to prevent stray strands.
  3. Connect the speaker cables to the terminals on the rear of each D-11XM speaker. Match the positive (+) terminal (red) on the speaker to the positive (+) terminal on your amplifier/receiver, and the negative (-) terminal (black) on the speaker to the negative (-) terminal on your amplifier/receiver.
  4. Connect the other end of the speaker cables to the corresponding surround speaker outputs on your amplifier or AV receiver, maintaining correct polarity.
  5. Once all connections are secure, plug in and power on your amplifier/receiver.

Note: The D-11XM speakers have an impedance of 6 Ohms. Ensure your amplifier/receiver is compatible with this impedance rating.

5. Operating Instructions

The ONKYO D-11XM speakers are passive components of your audio system. Their operation is controlled by your connected amplifier or AV receiver.

  1. Ensure all speaker connections are correct and secure.
  2. Power on your amplifier or AV receiver.
  3. Select the desired audio input source on your amplifier/receiver (e.g., Blu-ray player, streaming device).
  4. Adjust the volume level on your amplifier/receiver to a comfortable listening level.
  5. For optimal surround sound, configure your amplifier/receiver's speaker settings according to its manual, ensuring the surround channels are properly calibrated.

6. Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your ONKYO D-11XM speakers, follow these maintenance guidelines:

  • Cleaning: Regularly wipe the speaker cabinets with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners, waxes, or solvents, as these can damage the finish.
  • Grilles: The speaker grilles can be carefully removed for cleaning if necessary. Use a soft brush or vacuum cleaner with a brush attachment to remove dust. Reattach securely.
  • Environment: Avoid exposing the speakers to extreme temperatures, humidity, or direct sunlight, which can degrade materials over time.
  • Connections: Periodically check speaker cable connections to ensure they remain tight and free from corrosion.
