Package Contents

  • WS-9640U-IT Main Display Unit
  • Wireless Outdoor Sensor
  • Instruction Manual

Note: 4 AA batteries (2 for the main unit, 2 for the outdoor sensor) are required and not included.

Setup

1. Battery Installation

  1. Outdoor Sensor:
    • Open the battery compartment on the back of the wireless outdoor sensor.
    • Insert 2 fresh AA batteries, observing the correct polarity (+ and -).
    • Close the battery compartment securely.
  2. Main Display Unit:
    • Open the battery compartment on the back of the main display unit.
    • Insert 2 fresh AA batteries, observing the correct polarity (+ and -).
    • Close the battery compartment securely.

Important: Always insert batteries into the outdoor sensor first, then into the main display unit to ensure proper synchronization.

2. Sensor Placement

Place the wireless outdoor sensor in a location that provides accurate temperature and humidity readings, away from direct sunlight and precipitation. The sensor can transmit data up to 330 feet (100 meters) to the main unit. Ensure there are no major obstructions between the sensor and the main unit for optimal signal reception. The main unit can be placed on a desktop or mounted to a wall.

3. Initial Synchronization and Atomic Time Setting

After battery installation, the main unit will automatically search for the outdoor sensor signal and the atomic time signal. This process may take several minutes to an hour. The atomic clock will automatically set itself and adjust for Daylight Saving Time. You may need to manually set your time zone.

  • Press the "TIME ZONE" button (usually located on the back or side) to select your local time zone.
  • If the outdoor temperature does not appear after 15 minutes, try repositioning the sensor or main unit, or re-inserting batteries in both units (sensor first).

Operating Instructions

1. Display Overview

Image: Close-up of the La Crosse Technology WS-9640U-IT main display unit. It clearly shows the digital readouts for outdoor temperature (19.3°F), indoor humidity (48% RH), indoor temperature (73.5°F), and the current time (12:34 PM). The Oscar Outlook figure is depicted wearing winter attire, indicating cold weather.

The main display unit provides the following information:

  • Outdoor Temperature: Received from the wireless sensor.
  • Indoor Temperature: Measured by the main unit.
  • Indoor Humidity: Measured by the main unit.
  • Atomic Time: Automatically synchronized for accuracy.
  • Oscar Outlook Figure: Changes attire based on outdoor temperature and humidity, providing a visual weather forecast. There are seven different costumes.

2. Temperature Unit Selection (°F/°C)

To switch between Fahrenheit (°F) and Celsius (°C) for temperature readings, locate the "°F/°C" button (often on the back or side of the unit) and press it. The display will update accordingly.

3. Manual Time Setting (If Atomic Signal is Unavailable)

In areas where the atomic time signal is weak or unavailable, you can manually set the time:

  1. Press and hold the "SET" button (or similar, refer to specific button labels on your unit) for a few seconds until the time display flashes.
  2. Use the "+" or "-" buttons to adjust the hour, then press "SET" to confirm.
  3. Repeat for minutes, year, month, and day.
  4. Press "SET" one last time to exit manual setting mode.

Maintenance

1. Battery Replacement

When the battery indicator appears on the display, replace the batteries in both the main unit and the outdoor sensor. Always replace batteries in the outdoor sensor first, then the main unit, to ensure proper re-synchronization.

  • Use only fresh, high-quality AA alkaline batteries.
  • Do not mix old and new batteries, or different types of batteries.
  • Dispose of used batteries responsibly according to local regulations.

2. Cleaning

Wipe the display unit and sensor with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents, as these may damage the plastic components or the display. Ensure both units are dry before re-installing batteries or placing them outdoors.

3. Environmental Considerations

Protect the outdoor sensor from extreme weather conditions, such as heavy rain, snow, or direct prolonged sunlight, which can affect its lifespan and accuracy. While designed for outdoor use, sheltered placement is recommended.
