1. Introduction
This manual provides essential instructions for the safe and effective use, setup, maintenance, and troubleshooting of your ArcOne S240-10 Horizontal Single Auto-Darkening Welding Filter. This filter is designed to protect your eyes from harmful ultraviolet (UV) and infrared (IR) radiation, as well as intense visible light generated during welding processes.
Please read this manual thoroughly before using the product to ensure proper operation and safety.
2. Safety Information
WARNING: Failure to follow these safety instructions may result in serious injury or permanent eye damage.
- Always use the auto-darkening filter in conjunction with a suitable welding helmet.
- Ensure the filter is clean and free from damage before each use.
- SPATTER VOIDS WARRANTY! Change front and rear cover plates when they become warped, discolored, and/or damaged. Damage to the welding lens caused by spatter or other abuse voids the warranty.
- Do not expose the filter to extreme temperatures or moisture. The filter is water and dust resistant, but not fully waterproof.
- Never look directly at the welding arc without proper eye protection.
- If the filter fails to darken, immediately stop welding and inspect the unit. Do not resume welding until the issue is resolved.
- This filter is suitable for Stick, TIG, and MIG welding applications between 50 and 300 amps.
3. Product Overview

4. Setup and Installation
- Prepare Welding Helmet: Ensure your welding helmet is clean and in good working condition. Remove any existing passive lenses or auto-darkening filters.
- Install Front Cover Plate: Place a clean, clear front cover plate into the designated slot on the inside of your welding helmet, ensuring it sits flush.
- Insert Auto-Darkening Filter: Carefully slide the ArcOne S240-10 auto-darkening filter into the helmet's lens holder. Ensure the sensors are facing outwards (towards the welding arc) and the filter is securely seated.
- Install Rear Cover Plate: Place a clean, clear rear cover plate into the designated slot on the outside of the auto-darkening filter, securing it in place.
- Initial Charge (Solar): For optimal performance, expose the filter to bright light (e.g., sunlight) for at least 30 minutes before first use to ensure the solar cells are adequately charged.
- Function Test: Before welding, perform a quick function test. Briefly strike an arc or use a bright light source (e.g., a camera flash) to verify that the filter darkens instantly.
5. Operation
The ArcOne S240-10 filter operates automatically. When an arc is struck, the two independent sensors detect the intense light and cause the filter to darken to Shade 10 within 0.5 milliseconds. When the arc ceases, the filter returns to its clear light state (Shade 2.5) after a delay of 0.2 seconds.
Welding Applications:
This filter is suitable for various welding processes, including:
- Stick Welding (SMAW)
- TIG Welding (GTAW)
- MIG Welding (GMAW)
It is recommended for welding applications between 50 and 300 amps.
Important: Always ensure the filter is functioning correctly before beginning any welding task. If you experience any flashes or discomfort, stop welding immediately.
6. Maintenance
Cleaning:
- Clean the filter and cover plates regularly with a soft, clean cloth.
- Use a mild soap and water solution if necessary, but avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
- Ensure the filter is completely dry before reinstallation.
Cover Plate Replacement:
Front and rear cover plates are consumable items and must be replaced regularly. Replace them immediately if they become:
- Warped
- Discolored
- Scratched
- Damaged by spatter
Note: Failure to replace damaged cover plates will void the product warranty and compromise eye protection.
Storage:
Store the filter in a clean, dry environment away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures when not in use.
