  • Portafilter: Holds the filter baskets for ground coffee or pods. Includes single, double, and pod filters.
  • Steam Wand: Pivoting wand for frothing milk, equipped with a stainless-steel frothing attachment.
  • Removable Water Tank: 91-ounce capacity for easy refilling and cleaning.
  • Warming Tray: Located on top of the machine, designed to preheat up to 6 espresso cups.
  • Control Panel: Features buttons or dials for power, espresso brewing, and steam functions. Note: Some units may show '0, 1, 2, 3' instead of 'Off, L, M, H' for certain controls.
  • Drip Tray: Collects excess water and coffee, removable for cleaning.

Setup

Follow these steps to set up your espresso machine for the first time:

  1. Unpack: Carefully remove all packaging materials and components from the box. Ensure all parts are present and undamaged.
  2. Initial Cleaning: Wash the removable water tank, portafilter, filter baskets, and frothing jug in warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly with clean water and dry completely. Wipe the exterior of the machine with a damp cloth.
  3. Fill Water Tank: Fill the 91-ounce removable water tank with fresh, cold water. Ensure the tank is properly seated in its position.
  4. Prime the Pump:
    • Place a large cup or container under the group head (where coffee dispenses) and another under the steam wand.
    • Plug the machine into a grounded power outlet.
    • Turn on the machine. The indicator light will illuminate.
    • Once the machine reaches operating temperature (indicator light stops flashing or turns solid), activate the brew function to dispense water through the group head. Let it run for approximately 30 seconds.
    • Next, activate the steam function to dispense water/steam through the steam wand for approximately 30 seconds.
    • Turn off the machine. The pump is now primed and ready for use.

Operating Instructions

Making Espresso

  1. Preheat: Turn on the machine and allow it to preheat for at least 15-20 minutes. This ensures the group head and portafilter are at the correct temperature for optimal extraction. Place your espresso cups on the warming tray during this time.
  2. Prepare Portafilter: Select the appropriate filter basket (single or double shot) and insert it into the portafilter.
  3. Add Ground Coffee: Fill the filter basket with freshly ground espresso coffee. Use a fine grind suitable for espresso.
  4. Tamp Coffee: Use a tamper to press the coffee grounds firmly and evenly into the filter basket. Ensure the surface is level.
  5. Insert Portafilter: Wipe any excess coffee from the rim of the portafilter. Insert the portafilter into the group head and turn it firmly to the right until it is securely locked in place.
  6. Position Cups: Place your preheated espresso cup(s) directly under the portafilter spouts.
  7. Brew Espresso: Activate the brew function. Espresso will begin to flow. Monitor the flow and color of the espresso.
  8. Stop Brewing: Manually stop the brew function once the desired volume of espresso is reached (typically 1-1.5 oz for a single shot, 2-3 oz for a double shot).
  9. Remove Portafilter: Carefully remove the portafilter by turning it to the left. Discard the used coffee grounds (puck).

Frothing Milk

  1. Prepare Milk: Fill a stainless-steel frothing jug with cold milk (dairy or non-dairy) to just below the spout.
  2. Position Steam Wand: Position the steam wand over the drip tray and briefly open the steam valve to purge any condensed water. Close the valve.
  3. Froth Milk: Immerse the tip of the steam wand just below the surface of the milk. Open the steam valve fully. Angle the jug slightly to create a swirling motion. As the milk heats and expands, lower the jug to keep the steam wand tip just below the surface, creating a fine foam.
  4. Heat Milk: Once the desired foam consistency is achieved, immerse the steam wand deeper into the milk to heat it to the desired temperature (approximately 140-150°F / 60-65°C).
  5. Stop Steaming: Close the steam valve and remove the jug.
  6. Clean Steam Wand: Immediately wipe the steam wand with a damp cloth to remove any milk residue. Briefly open the steam valve again to clear any milk from inside the wand.

Cleaning and Maintenance

Regular cleaning and maintenance will ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your espresso machine.

Daily Cleaning

  • Portafilter and Filter Baskets: After each use, remove the portafilter, discard the coffee grounds, and rinse the portafilter and filter basket under hot water.
  • Steam Wand: As described in the operating instructions, wipe the steam wand immediately after frothing milk and purge it to prevent blockages.
  • Drip Tray: Empty and rinse the drip tray daily.
  • Exterior: Wipe the exterior of the machine with a soft, damp cloth.

Weekly Cleaning

  • Water Tank: Remove the water tank, empty any remaining water, and wash it with warm soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and refill with fresh, cold water.

Descaling

Mineral deposits from water can build up inside the machine, affecting performance. Descale your machine every 2-3 months, or more frequently if you have hard water. Refer to the instructions provided with your descaling solution for the specific procedure. Generally, this involves:

  1. Mixing the descaling solution with water in the tank.
  2. Running the solution through the group head and steam wand.
  3. Rinsing the machine thoroughly with fresh water.
