3. Setup

3.1 Battery Installation

The Mars 4.0 taillight requires two AAA batteries (included). No tools are required for battery installation.

  1. Locate the battery compartment cover on the rear of the taillight unit.
  2. Gently pry open the cover.
  3. Insert two AAA batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-) as indicated inside the compartment.
  4. Close the battery compartment cover securely until it clicks into place.

3.2 Mounting the Taillight

The Mars 4.0 features a versatile mounting system suitable for seatposts, seatstays, or racks.

  1. Attach the Mounting Bracket:
    • For seatpost/seatstay mounting: Use the adjustable strap to secure the bracket to your bicycle's seatpost or seatstay. Tighten the red knob until the bracket is firm and does not rotate.
    • For rack mounting: Utilize the provided rack adaptor (if applicable) to attach the bracket to your bicycle's rear rack.
  2. Insert the Taillight Unit: Slide the Mars 4.0 taillight unit onto the mounting bracket until it securely locks into place. Ensure the light faces directly backward.
  3. Adjust Angle: The light can be adjusted to face different angles by loosening the red knob, positioning the light, and then re-tightening the knob.

4. Operating Instructions

The Mars 4.0 taillight has a single button for power and mode selection.

  1. Power On: Press the power button once to turn on the light. It will typically start in steady mode.
  2. Change Modes: Press the power button repeatedly to cycle through the available lighting modes:
    • Steady (1 Watt Ultra Bright Red LED)
    • Flash (1 Watt Ultra Bright Red LED with 2 Amber Side LEDs)
  3. Power Off: Press and hold the power button for approximately 2 seconds to turn off the light.

The taillight features a 1 Watt Ultra Bright Red LED and two amber side LEDs for enhanced visibility from multiple angles.

5. Maintenance

5.1 Cleaning

Wipe the taillight with a damp cloth to remove dirt and grime. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents, as these may damage the casing or lens.

5.2 Battery Replacement

When the light begins to dim or stops functioning, it is time to replace the batteries. Follow the "Battery Installation" steps in Section 3.1 to replace the two AAA batteries. Always replace both batteries at the same time with new ones.

NOTE:

Remove batteries if the light will not be used for an extended period to prevent leakage and potential damage to the unit.

6. Troubleshooting

  • Light does not turn on:
    • Check if batteries are inserted correctly with the correct polarity.
    • Replace batteries with new ones.
    • Ensure the battery compartment cover is fully closed.
  • Light is dim or flickers:
    • Batteries are low; replace them with new AAA batteries.
    • Check for corrosion in the battery compartment. Clean contacts if necessary.
  • Light detaches from bracket:
    • Ensure the light unit is fully slid onto the bracket until it locks.
    • Verify the mounting bracket is securely tightened to the bicycle.
