1. Introduction

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-G1 is a 12.1-megapixel Micro Four Thirds interchangeable lens digital camera. It features a compact design, a Live View Finder, a 3.0-inch LCD, and a Contrast AF (Auto Focus) system. 4. Setup

4.1 Attaching the Lens

Align the white index mark on the lens with the white index mark on the camera body. Rotate the lens clockwise until it clicks into place. To remove, press the lens release button and rotate counter-clockwise.

4.2 Inserting the Battery

Open the battery compartment cover located at the bottom of the camera. Insert the battery with the correct orientation, ensuring the contacts align. Close the cover securely.

4.3 Inserting a Memory Card

Open the memory card slot cover. Insert an SD or SDHC memory card with the label facing the front of the camera until it clicks. Close the cover securely.

5. Operating the Camera

5.1 Power On/Off

Slide the power switch to the ON position to turn on the camera. Slide it to OFF to power down.

5.2 Using the Viewfinder and LCD

The DMC-G1 features both an electronic viewfinder (EVF) and a vari-angle 3.0-inch LCD screen. Use the LVF/LCD button to switch between the two displays. The LCD can be rotated for flexible shooting angles.

5.3 Shooting Modes

Rotate the mode dial on the top of the camera to select your desired shooting mode:

  • Intelligent Auto (iA): Camera automatically selects optimal settings.
  • Program AE (P): Camera sets aperture and shutter speed, you control other settings.
  • Aperture Priority AE (A): You set aperture, camera sets shutter speed.
  • Shutter Priority AE (S): You set shutter speed, camera sets aperture.
  • Manual Exposure (M): You control both aperture and shutter speed.
  • Scene Modes: Pre-set modes for specific situations (e.g., Portrait, Landscape).

5.4 Autofocus and Exposure Lock

Press the shutter button halfway to activate autofocus and exposure. The AF/AE LOCK button can be used to lock focus and exposure settings before recomposing your shot.

6. Image and Video Capture

6.1 Photo Settings

  • Resolution: 12.1 MP effective still resolution.
  • File Format: JPEG (Normal quality) and RAW.
  • ISO Sensitivity: Expanded range from 100 to 1600.
  • White Balance: Automatic setting available.
  • Continuous Shooting: Up to 3 frames per second.

6.2 Video Recording

The camera supports movie mode for video capture. Refer to the on-screen menu for specific video recording options and settings.

7. Maintenance

7.1 Cleaning the Camera

  • Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the camera body.
  • For the lens and LCD screen, use a specialized lens cleaning cloth and solution.
  • Avoid using strong chemical cleaners.

7.2 Storage

When not in use, store the camera in a dry, cool place away from direct sunlight and dust. Remove the battery if storing for extended periods.

8. Troubleshooting

8.1 Camera Does Not Power On

  • Ensure the battery is fully charged and correctly inserted.
  • Check that the power switch is in the ON position.

8.2 Images Are Blurry

  • Verify that the lens is clean and free from smudges.
  • Ensure the camera is properly focused on the subject.
  • Check shutter speed; use a faster shutter speed or image stabilization in low light.

8.3 Memory Card Error

  • Reinsert the memory card.
  • Try a different, compatible memory card.
  • Format the memory card (note: this will erase all data).
