1. Introduction
The Buffalo LinkStation Live is a Network Attached Storage (NAS) device designed for seamless data storage and sharing across a home network. It allows access by any PC or Mac on your home network. This device supports Web Access for internet-based file sharing, streaming of multimedia content to DLNA media players, and includes features like a built-in USB Print Server, iTunes server, and BitTorrent client.

2. What's in the Box
Upon unpacking your Buffalo LinkStation Live, please verify that all the following components are included:

3. Setup
3.1 Physical Connection
- Connect the Ethernet Cable: Plug one end of the provided Ethernet cable into the LAN port on the back of the LinkStation Live unit. Connect the other end to an available LAN port on your network router or switch.
- Connect the AC Adapter: Plug the AC adapter into the DC-IN port on the back of the LinkStation Live. Connect the other end of the AC adapter to a power outlet.
- Power On: Press the power button on the LinkStation Live. The power LED should illuminate.

3.2 Software Installation (Using Setup CD-ROM)
- Insert the Setup CD-ROM into your computer's CD/DVD drive.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to install the necessary software, including the NAS Navigator utility.
- Once installed, launch the NAS Navigator. It will detect your LinkStation Live on the network.
- Follow the wizard to configure network settings, user accounts, and shared folders.
4. Operating the LinkStation Live
4.1 File Sharing and Access
The LinkStation Live allows you to store and share files with any Windows or Macintosh computer on your network. Shared folders can be accessed via network drives or through the NAS Navigator utility.
4.2 Web Access
Utilize Buffalo's Web Access feature to download files, view pictures, stream music and movies, and upload data to your LinkStation Live from anywhere over the Internet. This feature also supports access from an iPhone.
4.3 Multimedia Streaming (DLNA & iTunes Server)
- DLNA Server: Stream your favorite music and movies to any DLNA-compatible media player, such as the Buffalo LinkTheater.
- iTunes Server: Store all your iTunes media on the LinkStation Live, freeing up space on your computer's hard drive. Your iTunes library can then access media directly from the LinkStation.
4.4 Built-in BitTorrent Client
The integrated BitTorrent client allows the LinkStation Live to manage torrent file downloads independently, even when your computer is turned off or disconnected.
4.5 USB Port Functionality
The USB 2.0 port on the unit can be used for two primary functions:
- Storage Expansion: Connect an external USB 2.0 hard drive to expand the storage capacity of your LinkStation Live.
- USB Print Server: Share a single USB printer with all computers on your network.

5. Maintenance
5.1 Power Savings Mode
The LinkStation Live features a power savings mode that can reduce power consumption by up to 75%. This mode allows the device to power down based on the power state of your connected computer, contributing to energy efficiency.
5.2 Firmware Updates
Periodically check the Buffalo support website for firmware updates. Keeping your device's firmware up-to-date ensures optimal performance, security, and access to new features.
5.3 Cleaning
To clean the exterior of the LinkStation Live, use a soft, dry cloth. Do not use liquid cleaners or aerosol sprays directly on the unit.
6. Troubleshooting
6.1 Device Not Detected on Network
- Ensure the Ethernet cable is securely connected to both the LinkStation Live and your router/switch.
- Verify that the LinkStation Live is powered on and its power LED is illuminated.
- Check your router's status to ensure it is functioning correctly and providing network connectivity.
- Temporarily disable any firewall software on your computer to see if it is blocking the NAS Navigator.
- Restart the LinkStation Live and your router.
6.2 Cannot Access Shared Folders
- Confirm that the LinkStation Live is visible in NAS Navigator.
- Check user permissions for the shared folders. Ensure the user account you are using has access rights.
- Verify that your computer is on the same network subnet as the LinkStation Live.
6.3 Slow Performance
- Ensure your network cables are Cat5e or higher.
- Check for other heavy network traffic that might be consuming bandwidth.
- Verify the health of the internal hard drive using the LinkStation's administration interface.
