1. Introduction

The Shubb C2 Standard Series Classical Guitar Capo is a precision-engineered accessory designed for classical guitars. Known for its reliable performance and ease of use, this capo ensures your guitar remains in tune when transposing. Its unique design allows for consistent pressure application, mimicking the feel of a fingertip.

2. Setup

Setting up your Shubb C2 capo is straightforward. Follow these steps for optimal performance:

  1. Initial Adjustment: Before placing the capo on the guitar, use the adjustment screw to set the initial tension. Turn the screw clockwise to increase tension and counter-clockwise to decrease it. The goal is to achieve just enough pressure to hold the strings firmly without pulling them out of tune.
  2. Positioning: Open the capo by lifting the lever. Place the capo on the desired fret, ensuring the rubber pad rests directly behind the fret wire. This positioning helps prevent buzzing and maintains intonation.
  3. Securing: Once positioned, close the lever. The capo should snap into place with a firm, but not excessive, grip.
  4. Fine-Tuning: After securing, pluck each string to check for clear tone and proper intonation. If any strings buzz or sound sharp/flat, make minor adjustments to the screw or reposition the capo slightly.

Note: The Shubb capo's design allows you to "set it and forget it." Once the tension is correctly adjusted for your guitar, you typically won't need to readjust the screw for subsequent uses on the same instrument.

3. Operating the Capo

Using the Shubb C2 capo during play is simple and efficient:

  • Attaching: To attach the capo, lift the lever, place the capo on the desired fret (just behind the fret wire), and then press the lever down until it locks into place.
  • Removing: To remove the capo, simply lift the lever. The capo will release its grip, allowing you to easily slide it off the neck or reposition it.
  • Repositioning: For quick key changes, lift the lever, slide the capo to the new fret, and close the lever. Minimal adjustment should be needed if the initial setup was correct.

The custom-made rubber pad on the capo is designed to function like a human fingertip, providing even pressure across all strings without damaging the fretboard or strings.

4. Maintenance

Proper care will extend the life and performance of your Shubb C2 capo:

  • Cleaning: Wipe the metal parts with a soft, dry cloth to remove fingerprints and dust. For the rubber pad, a slightly damp cloth can be used if necessary, but ensure it is completely dry before storage.
  • Storage: Store the capo in a clean, dry place, preferably in a guitar case accessory compartment, to protect it from scratches and environmental elements.
  • Inspection: Periodically inspect the rubber pad for any signs of wear or damage. While durable, extreme wear might affect performance.
  • Avoid Harsh Chemicals: Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents on the capo, as these can damage the finish or the rubber components.

5. Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Strings buzzing when capo is on.Insufficient pressure or incorrect positioning.Increase tension slightly with the adjustment screw. Ensure the capo is placed directly behind the fret wire.
Guitar sounds out of tune with capo.Too much pressure, pulling strings sharp, or capo not parallel to frets.Decrease tension with the adjustment screw. Ensure the capo is applied evenly across all strings and parallel to the fret.
Capo is difficult to open/close.Mechanism might be stiff or dirty.Apply a tiny drop of light machine oil to the pivot points if necessary. Clean any debris from the mechanism.
