Setup
1. Inserting Batteries
- Open the battery compartment cover on the bottom of the camera.
- Insert four AA batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-).
- Close the battery compartment cover securely.
2. Inserting Memory Card
The camera supports xD-Picture Card and microSD/microSDHC cards via an adapter.
- Open the memory card slot cover.
- Insert the memory card (or microSD card with adapter) until it clicks into place.
- Close the memory card slot cover.
3. Attaching the Neck Strap
Thread the neck strap through the strap eyelets on the camera body as shown in the diagram (refer to Figure 1 for eyelet location) and secure it firmly.
4. Initial Settings
Upon first power-on or after battery replacement, you may need to set the date, time, and language. Follow the on-screen prompts using the control buttons.
Operating the Camera
1. Turning On/Off
Press the POWER button located on the top of the camera to turn it on or off.
2. Basic Shooting (Auto Mode)
- Turn the mode dial to AUTO.
- Frame your subject using the LCD monitor or electronic viewfinder.
- Press the shutter button halfway to focus. The focus frame will turn green when focus is achieved.
- Press the shutter button fully to take the picture.
3. Zoom Operation
Use the zoom lever around the shutter button to adjust the optical zoom. Push it towards W for wide-angle and towards T for telephoto. The camera features a 20x optical zoom.
4. Focusing
The camera uses an autofocus system with face detection. For specific subjects, you can half-press the shutter button to lock focus before recomposing your shot.
5. Flash Modes
Press the flash button (usually marked with a lightning bolt icon) to cycle through available flash modes: Auto, Red-eye Reduction, Fill-in, Flash Off. The built-in flash also supports exposure compensation.
6. Shooting Modes
Rotate the mode dial to select various shooting modes, including Program Auto (P), Shutter Priority (S), Aperture Priority (A), Manual (M), and various Scene Modes (SCN) for specific situations like Portrait, Landscape, Night Scene, and Macro. The camera also features high-speed continuous shooting and a pre-capture function.
7. Video Recording
To record videos, select the video mode on the mode dial. Press the shutter button to start and stop recording. Videos are captured in MP4 or AVI format at 30 frames per second.
Playback
To view your photos and videos:
- Press the PLAY button.
- Use the directional pad to navigate through your images and videos.
- Press the OK/FUNC button to play videos.
- To delete a file, select it and press the delete button (trash can icon), then confirm.
Connecting to a Computer
To transfer images and videos to your computer:
- Turn off the camera.
- Connect the camera to your computer using the supplied USB cable.
- Turn on the camera. It should be recognized as a removable disk or PTP device.
- Follow your computer's instructions to import photos.
