Figure 3.1: ONO SOKKI HT-3200 Digital Tachometer. This image displays the blue-colored HT-3200 tachometer from an angled perspective. The digital display shows "9800 r/min". Below the display are buttons labeled "RECALL/CLR" and "MEMORY/COND". At the top, the contact tip is visible, ready for measurement. The ONO SOKKI logo is printed at the bottom of the device.

Key Components:

  • Digital Display: Shows RPM readings and other indicators.
  • Measurement Tip: The contact point for measuring rotational speed.
  • Operation Buttons: For functions like recall, clear, memory, and mode selection.
  • Battery Compartment: Located at the rear for AAA batteries.
  • Accessories: Includes Rotary Contact (KS-300) and Perimeter Ring (KS-200).

4. Setup

4.1 Battery Installation

  1. Locate the battery compartment cover on the back of the HT-3200.
  2. Slide or unclip the cover to open the compartment.
  3. Insert three (3) AAA size batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-) as indicated inside the compartment.
  4. Replace the battery compartment cover securely.

Note: Batteries included are for testing purposes and may have a shorter lifespan. Replace with new alkaline batteries for optimal performance.

4.2 Attaching Accessories

Depending on the measurement type, attach the appropriate accessory to the measurement tip:

  • Rotary Contact (KS-300): For direct contact measurements of rotating shafts or surfaces.
  • Perimeter Ring (KS-200): For measuring linear speed when attached to the rotary contact and rolled along a surface.

Gently push the accessory onto the measurement tip until it is firmly seated.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Powering On/Off

Press the POWER button (if available, or the main measurement button) to turn on the device. The display will illuminate. The device typically powers off automatically after a period of inactivity to conserve battery life.

5.2 Selecting Measurement Mode (L/H)

The HT-3200 offers two measurement modes:

  • L Mode (Low Speed): For measurements from 0.5 to 2000.0 rpm. Provides higher accuracy at lower speeds.
  • H Mode (High Speed): For measurements from 5 to 10,000 rpm.

Refer to the device's buttons (e.g., "COND" or a dedicated mode button) to switch between L and H modes as needed for your application.

5.3 Taking a Measurement

  1. Ensure the correct accessory (Rotary Contact or Perimeter Ring) is attached.
  2. Select the appropriate measurement mode (L or H) based on the expected RPM range.
  3. Carefully bring the measurement tip into firm, stable contact with the center of the rotating shaft or the surface to be measured.
  4. The RPM reading will appear on the digital display. Maintain contact until a stable reading is obtained.
  5. Remove the device from the rotating object once the measurement is complete.

5.4 Using Memory Functions

The HT-3200 features memory functions to store and recall readings.

  • MEMORY button: Press this button to save the current reading or cycle through stored readings.
  • RECALL/CLR button: Use this button to recall stored data or clear the memory. Consult the device's specific button sequence for clearing memory.

6. Maintenance

6.1 Cleaning

  • Wipe the device exterior with a soft, dry cloth.
  • Do not use abrasive cleaners, solvents, or immerse the device in water.
  • Ensure the measurement tip and accessories are free from debris before and after use.

6.2 Battery Replacement

When the battery indicator appears on the display or the device fails to power on, replace all three AAA batteries. Refer to Section 4.1 for battery installation instructions.
