Setup and Installation

Follow these steps to properly install the bracket and sensor on your bicycle.

1. Mount the Handlebar Bracket

  1. Position the handlebar mounting bracket on your bicycle's handlebar or stem. Ensure it is in a location that allows for easy viewing of your cycling computer.
  2. Secure the bracket firmly using the provided zip ties or the integrated strap, if applicable. The bracket should not rotate or slide during use.

2. Install the Speed Sensor

  1. Attach the speed sensor to the front fork of your bicycle. The sensor should be positioned on the same side as the wheel spoke magnet (magnet not included with this kit).
  2. Use the provided zip ties to secure the sensor firmly to the fork. Ensure the sensor is stable and does not interfere with wheel rotation or braking.
  3. Adjust the sensor's position so that its detection area is aligned with the wheel spoke magnet. The gap between the sensor and the magnet should be approximately 3-5 mm (0.12-0.2 inches).

3. Route the Sensor Cable

  1. Carefully route the sensor cable along the front brake cable or fork, up to the handlebar bracket.
  2. Use the remaining zip ties to secure the cable at regular intervals, preventing it from snagging on moving parts or interfering with steering.
  3. Plug the sensor cable connector into the corresponding port on the handlebar mounting bracket. Ensure a secure connection.

Important Note: This kit does not include the wheel spoke magnet. You will need to use your existing magnet or acquire a compatible one separately for the speed sensor to function correctly.

Operating Instructions

Once the bracket and sensor are installed, attach your CATEYE Velo 5 or Velo 8 cycling computer to the handlebar bracket. The computer will automatically detect the sensor when the wheel rotates and the magnet passes the sensor. Ensure the computer is properly configured according to its own instruction manual for accurate readings.

  • Sensor Alignment Check: Spin the front wheel to ensure the magnet passes the sensor within the recommended 3-5 mm gap.
  • Computer Functionality: Verify that your cycling computer displays speed and distance readings as expected when the wheel is spun.

Maintenance

Regular maintenance helps ensure the longevity and accurate performance of your sensor kit.

  • Cleaning: Periodically wipe the sensor and bracket with a damp cloth to remove dirt and grime. Avoid using harsh chemicals.
  • Cable Inspection: Check the sensor cable for any signs of wear, cuts, or kinks. Ensure all zip ties are secure.
  • Sensor/Magnet Alignment: Occasionally verify that the sensor and magnet remain properly aligned and that the gap is within the specified range.
  • Connection Check: Ensure the sensor cable is securely plugged into the handlebar bracket.
