Setup and Installation

This section outlines the steps required to install the YSK-857 Face Separation Kit with your Yaesu FT-857D or FT-857 HF Transceiver. Ensure the transceiver is powered off and disconnected from its power source before proceeding.

  1. Prepare the Transceiver: Carefully detach the control head from the main body of your FT-857D/FT-857 transceiver. Refer to your transceiver's original user manual for specific instructions on detaching the control head.
  2. Mount the Control Panel Nest:
    • Select a suitable location for the control head. Consider accessibility, visibility, and cable routing.
    • Use the provided mounting screws, washers, and nuts to securely attach the control panel nest/bracket to your chosen surface. Alternatively, for non-permanent mounting, use the self-adhesive tape on a clean, flat surface.
  3. Connect the Control Head Extension Cable:
    • Connect one end of the RJ-11 control head extension cable to the corresponding port on the detached control head.
    • Connect the other end of this cable to the control head port on the main body of the FT-857D/FT-857 transceiver.
  4. Connect the Microphone Extension Cable:
    • Connect one end of the RJ-11 microphone extension cable to the microphone port on the detached control head.
    • Connect the other end of this cable to the microphone port on the main body of the FT-857D/FT-857 transceiver.
  5. Connect the Speaker Extension Cable:
    • Connect one end of the 3.5mm speaker extension cable to the external speaker jack on the main body of the FT-857D/FT-857 transceiver.
    • Connect the other end of this cable to your external speaker. If you are using the internal speaker of the control head, ensure the control head is properly connected to the main unit via the control head extension cable.
  6. Secure the Control Head: Once all cables are connected, carefully place the detached control head into the mounted control panel nest. Ensure it is seated securely.
  7. Cable Management: Route all extension cables neatly and securely to prevent tangling or damage. Use cable ties or clips if necessary (not included).
