Introduction

Setup

1. Mounting the Geared Head to a Tripod or Stand

1. Ensure your tripod or studio stand is stable and capable of supporting the combined weight of the geared head and your camera equipment.
2. Locate the mounting screw on your tripod or stand.
3. Align the base of the Manfrotto 400 geared head with the mounting screw.
4. Securely tighten the geared head onto the tripod or stand until it is firmly attached and does not wobble.

2. Attaching a Camera to the Quick Release Plate

1. Identify the round quick release plate on the top of the geared head.
2. Loosen the quick release plate locking mechanism to remove the plate from the head.
3. Attach your camera to the quick release plate using one of the provided 1/4" screws. Ensure the screw is tightened securely into the camera's tripod mount.
4. With the camera attached to the plate, re-insert the quick release plate into the geared head.
5. Engage and tighten the quick release plate locking mechanism to secure the camera firmly to the head. Verify that the camera is stable before use.

Operating Instructions

1. Pan Adjustment

• To adjust the horizontal (pan) movement, locate the dedicated fold-away rotating handle for pan.
• Rotate this handle to achieve precise horizontal positioning of your camera.
• Once the desired position is reached, the geared mechanism will hold the camera securely.

2. Tilt Adjustment

• For vertical (tilt) movement, use the dedicated fold-away rotating handle for tilt.
• Turn the handle to adjust the camera's vertical angle.
• The geared system ensures smooth and accurate tilt adjustments.

3. Side-to-Side Leveling

• A separate handle controls the side-to-side leveling of the camera.
• Use this handle to fine-tune the camera's horizontal alignment, ensuring a perfectly level shot.
• The integrated bubble level can assist in achieving accurate leveling.

4. Quick Release Plate Tension Adjustment

• The tension holding the round quick release plate can be adjusted for fine positioning.
• To make minor adjustments to the camera's position on the plate, slightly loosen the tension mechanism. This allows for small shifts while maintaining safety.
• Always re-tighten the tension mechanism after making adjustments to ensure the camera is fully secured.

Maintenance

• Cleaning: Regularly wipe the geared head with a soft, dry cloth to remove dust and debris. For stubborn dirt, a slightly damp cloth can be used, followed by immediate drying. Avoid abrasive cleaners or solvents.
