1. Introduction

Thank you for choosing the L.A. Baby Deluxe Holiday Mini/Portable Folding Metal Crib. This crib is designed for safety, durability, and convenience, featuring a compact folding design for easy storage and transport. It is constructed from institutional-quality metal with a scratch-resistant, non-toxic powder coat finish. This manual provides essential information for the safe and proper use, assembly, maintenance, and care of your crib.

2. Important Safety Information

Your child's safety is paramount. This crib meets the Mandatory CPSC 16 CFR 1220 regulations for non-full size cribs. Always follow these safety guidelines:

  • Suffocation Hazard: Infants can suffocate in gaps between extra padding and crib sides. Use only the mattress provided by L.A. Baby.
  • Strangulation Hazard: Strings and cords can cause strangulation. Keep strings and cords away from the crib. Do not place the crib near windows where cords from blinds or drapes could strangle a child.
  • Fall Hazard: When a child is able to pull to a standing position, set the mattress to the lowest position.
  • Entrapment Hazard: Ensure all hardware is tightened securely. Periodically check for loose hardware, damaged parts, or sharp edges.
  • Do not use the crib if any parts are missing, damaged, or broken. Contact L.A. Baby for replacement parts. Do not substitute parts.
  • The crib is intended for children who cannot climb out and are less than 35 inches (89 cm) tall. The maximum weight recommendation is 50 pounds.
  • Always engage the wheel locks when the crib is in use to prevent accidental movement.

3. Unpacking and Initial Setup

The L.A. Baby Deluxe Holiday Mini/Portable Folding Metal Crib comes fully assembled and folded in its packaging. No additional assembly is required.

  1. Carefully remove the crib from its packaging.
  2. Place the folded crib in the desired location.
  3. Proceed to the 'Folding and Unfolding' section for instructions on how to set up the crib for use.

4. Folding and Unfolding Instructions

The crib features a convenient folding mechanism for easy storage and transport.

4.1. Unfolding the Crib for Use

  1. Ensure the crib is on a flat, stable surface.
  2. Gently pull the two sides of the crib apart. The hinged bottom piece will lift up as the sides extend.
  3. Continue pulling the sides until the crib is fully extended and the bottom piece lays flat and securely in place.
  4. Place the provided mattress inside the crib. Ensure the mattress fits snugly without any gaps around the edges.
  5. Secure the mattress using the integrated straps to the crib frame, if applicable. (Refer to Figure 6 for mattress strap detail).
  6. Engage the wheel locks on all casters to prevent movement. (Refer to Figure 3 for caster detail).

4.2. Folding the Crib for Storage

  1. Remove the mattress from the crib.
  2. Disengage the wheel locks on all casters.
  3. Lift the hinged bottom piece of the crib upwards. This will allow the sides to come together.
  4. Push the two sides of the crib together until it is fully folded.
  5. The crib will stand upright in its folded position, ready for storage or transport.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1. Mattress Placement

The crib includes a deluxe 24" x 38" x 3" thick foam mattress. This mattress is compliant with Federal Flammability standard 16 CFR 1633. Always use the provided mattress. Ensure it lies flat and securely within the crib frame, leaving no gaps where a child could become entrapped. The mattress can be secured to the crib frame using the integrated straps.

5.2. Caster Wheels and Locks

The crib is equipped with heavy-duty casters for easy mobility. Each wheel includes a locking mechanism to secure the crib in place. To engage the lock, press down on the lever located on each caster. To disengage, lift the lever. Always ensure all wheel locks are engaged when the crib is stationary and in use.

5.3. Protective Foam Bumpers

Foam bumpers are included to protect doorways and other furniture when moving the crib. These can be placed around the leg posts above the casters.

6. Maintenance and Care

  • Cleaning: The crib features an easy-to-clean, scratch-resistant non-toxic powder coat finish. Wipe with a damp cloth and mild detergent. Do not use abrasive cleaners or bleach.
  • Inspections: Regularly inspect the crib for any loose hardware, worn parts, or damage. Ensure all screws and bolts are tight.
  • Storage: When not in use, fold the crib and store it in a dry, safe place. An optional nylon storage cover is available for purchase to protect the crib during storage.

7. Troubleshooting

  • Crib does not fold/unfold smoothly: Ensure the mattress is removed and the bottom support panel is properly lifted or lowered. Check for any obstructions in the folding mechanism.
  • Casters not locking/rolling: Verify that the locking levers are fully engaged or disengaged. Clean any debris from the wheels.
  • Crib feels unstable: Double-check that the crib is fully unfolded and the bottom support panel is securely in place. Ensure all hardware is tightened.
