1. Introduction
The Cables Direct Online IR Repeater System, Model A-1183B-2, allows you to control your audio/video components remotely, even when they are hidden inside cabinets or in another room. This system extends the range of your existing infrared (IR) remote controls, providing seamless operation of up to 12 home theater devices without direct line-of-sight. Its compact design ensures discreet integration into any home entertainment setup.
2. Product Overview and Components
The IR Repeater System includes the following components:
- IR Connection Block (Main Unit): The central hub that receives signals from the IR Receiver and transmits them to the IR Emitters.
- IR Receiver: A small sensor that captures infrared signals from your remote controls.
- IR Emitters: Small LEDs that attach directly to your A/V components' IR windows to transmit commands.
- Power Adapter: Provides power to the IR Connection Block.

2.1. IR Connection Block
This unit processes the IR signals. It features input ports for the IR receiver and output ports for the IR emitters. Status LEDs indicate power and IR signal confirmation.

2.2. IR Receiver
This small, discreet sensor is designed to be placed in line-of-sight of your remote control. It captures the IR signals and sends them to the connection block.

2.3. IR Emitters
These tiny emitters are placed directly over the IR sensor window of each A/V component you wish to control. They relay the commands from the connection block to your devices.

3. Setup Instructions
- Position the IR Connection Block: Place the IR Connection Block in a secure, hidden location near your A/V components. Ensure it is easily accessible for wiring. The unit can be mounted using its flanges if desired.
- Connect the IR Receiver:
- Locate a suitable spot for the IR Receiver. This spot must have a clear line-of-sight to where you will be using your remote control. Common locations include near the television, on a shelf, or discreetly mounted on a cabinet edge.
- Use the included adhesive backing to secure the IR Receiver in place.
- Plug the 3.5mm jack of the IR Receiver cable into the "IR RECEIVER" port on the IR Connection Block.
- Connect the IR Emitters:
- Identify the IR sensor window on each A/V component you wish to control. This is typically a small, dark, translucent area on the front panel. Refer to your component's manual if unsure.
- Carefully peel the adhesive backing from an IR Emitter.
- Attach the IR Emitter directly over the IR sensor window of your component. Ensure a firm and secure placement for optimal signal transmission.
- Plug the 3.5mm jack of the IR Emitter cable into any available "EMITTERS" port (1-6) on the IR Connection Block. The system supports up to 6 emitter cables, each potentially controlling multiple devices if using dual-head emitters.
- Connect Power: Plug the provided power adapter into a standard electrical outlet and then connect the adapter's barrel connector to the "POWER +12VDC" input on the IR Connection Block. The "POWER +12VDC" LED on the connection block should illuminate, indicating power is supplied.
- Test the System:
- Point your remote control at the IR Receiver and press a button.
- Observe the "IR CONFIRM" LED on the IR Connection Block. It should blink when a signal is received.
- Verify that your A/V component responds to the remote command. If not, adjust the emitter placement on the component's IR window.
4. Operating Instructions
Once the system is set up, operating your A/V components is straightforward:
- Ensure the IR Connection Block is powered on (Power LED illuminated).
- Point your standard IR remote control directly at the IR Receiver.
- Press the desired button on your remote. The IR Receiver will capture the signal, and the IR Connection Block will relay it to the appropriate IR Emitter(s), which then transmit the command to your hidden A/V component.
- The "IR CONFIRM" LED on the connection block will flash briefly to indicate that an IR signal has been successfully received and processed.
The system is designed to work with most standard IR remote controls and A/V components. No special programming is required.
5. Maintenance
The Cables Direct Online IR Repeater System requires minimal maintenance.
- Cleaning: Periodically wipe the IR Receiver and IR Emitters with a soft, dry cloth to remove dust or smudges that could interfere with signal reception or transmission. Do not use liquid cleaners directly on the components.
- Cable Management: Ensure all cables are neatly routed and secured to prevent accidental disconnections or damage. Avoid placing heavy objects on cables.
- Environment: Keep the IR Connection Block and other components in a dry environment, away from extreme temperatures, direct sunlight, and moisture.
6. Troubleshooting
