3.2 Shooting Modes

Rotate the mode dial on the top of the camera to select your desired shooting mode:

  • AUTO: Camera automatically sets optimal exposure and other settings.
  • P (Program Auto): Camera sets aperture and shutter speed, but you can adjust other settings.
  • A (Aperture Priority): You set the aperture, camera sets shutter speed.
  • S (Shutter Priority): You set the shutter speed, camera sets aperture.
  • M (Manual Exposure): You control both aperture and shutter speed.
  • Scene Selection Modes: Optimize settings for specific scenes like Portrait, Landscape, Macro, Sports, Sunset, and Night Portrait/Night View.

3.3 Focusing

The DSLRA350 features an Eye-Start Autofocus System, which begins focusing when you bring the camera to your eye. It also includes a 9-Point Center Cross AF Sensor for precise and quick focusing.

  • Autofocus (AF): The default setting. Press the shutter button halfway to focus.
  • Manual Focus (MF): Switch the lens to MF mode and rotate the focus ring on the lens.
  • Live View Focusing: When using Live View, the camera provides super-quick AF response.

3.4 Exposure Control and ISO Sensitivity

The camera uses 1200-zone evaluative metering for accurate exposure. The Dynamic Range Optimizer (DRO) helps improve results with backlit subjects and recover details in shadows or highlights. You can select between Normal DRO and Advanced DRO.

Adjust ISO sensitivity from 100 to 3200. Higher ISO settings allow shooting in dim light, with High ISO Noise Reduction technology minimizing noise at ISO 1600 and 3200.

3.5 Super SteadyShot Image Stabilization

The DSLRA350 features in-camera Super SteadyShot image stabilization, which reduces blur with any compatible lens. This allows for effective shooting in low light without flash or with smaller apertures for increased depth of field.

3.6 Using the Flash

The camera has an Auto Pop-up flash that deploys and fires automatically when needed in Auto mode and some scene selection modes. Flash is cancelled in Landscape, Sport, Sunset modes, or when set to "Flash Off" on the Exposure Mode dial.

4. Maintenance

4.1 Cleaning the Camera

  • Body: Wipe with a soft, dry cloth. For stubborn dirt, use a slightly damp cloth and then dry.
  • Lens: Use a lens brush or blower to remove dust, then gently wipe with a lens cleaning cloth and solution.
  • Image Sensor: The DSLRA350 features Anti-dust technology, which includes a static-free anti-dust coating on the CCD filter and anti-dust vibration that shakes the CCD to dislodge dust when the camera is shut off. For persistent dust, professional cleaning is recommended.
  • LCD Screen: Gently wipe with a soft, dry cloth.

4.2 Battery Care

  • Charge the battery fully before use.
  • Store batteries in a cool, dry place when not in use.
  • Do not expose batteries to extreme temperatures or moisture.

4.3 Storage

When storing the camera for extended periods, remove the battery and memory card. Store the camera in a dry, dust-free environment, ideally with a desiccant to prevent mold and mildew.

5. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your camera, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

  • Camera does not power on: Ensure the battery is fully charged and correctly inserted. Check that the power switch is in the 'ON' position.
  • Images are blurry: Check focus settings (AF/MF). Ensure Super SteadyShot is enabled if shooting handheld in low light. Use a faster shutter speed or a tripod if necessary.
  • Flash does not fire: Verify that the flash is not set to 'Flash Off' mode. Ensure you are not in a scene mode that disables flash (e.g., Landscape, Sport, Sunset).
  • Memory card error: Reinsert the memory card. Try a different compatible memory card. Ensure the card is not full or corrupted.
  • Dust spots on images: Utilize the camera's anti-dust vibration feature by powering off and on. If spots persist, professional sensor cleaning may be required.
